Default Cobra, smobra ...

If the idea of having a $35k Mustang Cobra sticking to your door erks you, how ya' gonna' feel when a Japanese sewing machine leaves you wanking in it's dust:

Why worry about the competition ... just be happy with what you have ... how many of you actually see other cars just as fast as a stock Corvette?

Listen to this quote from the article:

"But drop the clutch from 3500 RPM and you can get to 60 in less than five seconds, blowing away everything else in its price class. "
Then further down the article, you get to the stats:

0-60 mph 4.1
0-1320 ft 12.8 @ 111.7 mph (see what happens when you build a car with no torque?)
Lateral acceleration (200-ft skidpad) 0.93g
Speed through 700-ft slalom 67.5 mph
EPA city/highway 23/26 mpg
Horsepower (DIN) 360 bhp @ 8300 rpm
Torque 230 lb-ft @ 6000 rpm (this is what Honda calls low end torque  )

Price as Tested: $53,950

So how does this car blow away everything in its price class when its slower than a Z06 and costs $3k more. What's even more amazing is the fuel economy: despite weighing 500 lbs. less than a Z06, with an engine about half the size with DOHC and variable valve timing the thing still can't get better mileage than a Z06 on the highway. So much for Honda technology.

Long live the pushrod V-8!!! :D :flag :chevy

Oh and then this quote too from the article:

"But how many other cars give you full blast air conditioning at an idle? Uh huh. How many of those do a 4 second zero to sixty? Uh huh. How many of those can I afford? One."
Yeah, he really means the Z06 being that its $3k cheaper than the S2000R.

I'm not sure if that article could be much more biased. They brought the Z06 to the table to compare it, then selectively left it out of their comparisons to the S2000R whenever it crushed it. Like the Z06 didn't exist anymore or they forgot the Z06 only costs $50k.

I think the engineering is awesome! In no way shape or form does that car look better than a Corvette or would I buy one instead of a ZO6, but I would like to give Honda the LS6 and tell then to build it to run to a 9k red line. With the S2000, Honda has the finest production 4 cyclinder engine in the world, now with their 6 I believe the same can be said. I own two Hondas and love um! Gotta give credit were it is due.

A buddy with an S2000 just sent me this article. I hope it's true. It would rank up there as one of the most fun cars to drive PERIOD. To the people that said 230lb/ft of torque is sad, look at the spread, this car has a 9000rpm redline, power under the curve is going to be pretty nice and with a good driver, it's going to give pretty much any stock car a run for it's money. A bit pricey, but I might take one over a Z06, just because it's lighter and probably much more fun to toss around.

Doesn't matter, this article has already been proved to be a BIG CROCK OF CRAP. Some guy wrote this article looking for publicity. It seemed very weird that Honda would shoot out a $50k 2 seat roadster under the Honda moniker. Just doesn't fly with their MS. Anyway, fairly well-written article, but there are some glaring flaws. It is NOT TRUE.

and with a good driver, it's going to give pretty much any stock car a run for it's money.
Just my $0.02: Good drivers will be at a premium in these cars like no other, mainly because of the very high rpm's needed to make the car go fast. Most people just aren't comfortable revving like that... *most* people, except the hard core rice racer types that can *afford* this car, which again dwindles the number of qualified pilots for it. I postulate that most of the people that plunk down the dough for this car are not capable of driving it to it's limits sufficient to outperform a Z06 or some of the other competition mentioned. Maybe I'm wrong but that's the way I see it.

That said, I think the streetable F1 engine is  If I was rich I'd prolly get one but only to supplement a garage that already had a Z06 and '03 Cobra (I'm gonna get flamed for the Cobra comment...)

I have a hard time believing Honda will put out a car so expensive. Anyway if they do, the Z06 is still a faster car and the S2000(R) is just an ugly car. For 30k maybe, but putting it in the price ball park of a Z06 who in the lleh is going to buy it. ;)

hahah
if you knock off everything past the .com you can get to his directory
in the directory you can even find a family photograph http://www.mcclatchie.com/images/24-...3-0359_IMG.JPG
what I don't understand, is if your going to make a fake article, why not hide or prohibit access to your directory,
guess people don't think of the little details like that

Yeah, I think the article may be a hoax too. The tipoff for me is the 1/4 mile time & mph. Torque would not enter into it, once off the line the car would be pulling the powerband all they way down the strip. I would expect a 360 hp car at that weight to easily run low 12's, if not 11's. You'd really notice the torque issue more tooling around town in traffic and such.

The other thing is the people running the current S2000 can't keep them together; broken clutches, shock towers, transmissions, differentials, etc..

Don't care for the styling on 'em anyway. The first test a car has to pass is the "would I be caught dead being seen in it" test. :yesnod:
