Default Stupid question, but I need to know

Ok so I have an extremely squeaky pulley (like crazy bad). I have narrowed it down to my a/c pulley. Can I just take my a/c belt off? It is winter time and I can't see myself using A/c until at least April (I'm from alabama).

I also sprayed belt dressing on it and it fixed it for about 15 seconds and then it made it 10x worse. It's the very top AC (idler?) pulley.

Or does someone have a good DIY and a place I can buy this pulley? Is it availible at advance or autozone?

You can just pull the belt and drive it but since your under the hood you may as well replace the pulley. Use the search, there are write-ups on how to replace it.

I would fix it the correct way because the ac compressor is used in the winter time during defrost cycle.

Having some issues... After watching that video I went to do it myself tonight. While under there and ready to remove the pulley I saw that I have 2 tube like things that are blocking my path to get my socket to the pulley. This is something that the other corvette I saw in the video did not have. And I'm not sure what to do. Here is a pic

When I do the A/C belt on mine I use a wrench to get to that pulley. You can pry a little on the hoses that run there and get a little more room. Or like you said just cut it off and then do the majority of the work when it warms up.

Well I went ahead and removed the AC tensioner. I was able to access the bolt that actually mounts the tensioner, so I removed that and the belt. I then tried and tried to get to that other pulley but I am still unable to get to it. But I was able to touch and spin it to see that it is extremely loose and squeaky, which was my problem.

So I put the main belt back on, and fired up my car, only to notice that my idler pulley (the one in the middle below the intake kinda ) is loose and squeaky as well.

So I have removed that one, and will replace with a new one tomorrow

As for the AC idler, I'm gonna have to buy a longer ratchet, or breaker bar might do it

Those "tube things" are transmission cooler lines going into your radiator from the transmission. You have them because your car is an automatic.

AS a point that was touched on, you do not want to disengage your AC compressor completely, especially in an older car.. The AC compressor needs to cycle( through the defrost cycle in the winter ) to keep the oils seals from drying up. Your " Ghetto " fix can cost you, 800 to 1000 dollars.
As I've said here for 14 years.. there is only one right way to fix something..

Yea I wasn't going to run my car for more than a couple days without it... But Hopefully I can get it off today and replace the idler while I'm under there

Well that's not what you said in your first post.. you said you wanted to take it off for the winter and didn't need it until April ( your words ) . ( Four Months ) No mention of a couple of day in your opening thread.. That's why others also called your solution a Ghetto fix ...

You say you can't get a socket on the bolt with those lines in the way (and from the looks of it, I'd agree with you), but it looks to me like you could get a box end wrench on it to loosen and remove it. Why don't you give that a try?

I couldn't find a idler pulley that fit right. So I repacked my bearings myself in the AC idler and main idler. Now I can't get the AC belt back on

Also now my alternator has gone out. I ordered a Valero regulator to replace it. Hopefully that's what it is. I also took apart my ignition switch and cleaned terminals. Also recharged battery.
