Default "Hot Rod" style pinstripes

I've always been a fan of the whole old school "Hot Rod" pinstripe look and was wondering if anyone has seen any of this sort of style done on a C5 or C6 Vette? Either my googlefu skills are failing or no one has done it. Just wondering if anyone has seen any and if anyone has pics.

I've seen a few Vettes done up like you describe, but not in quite a few years. Can say that it would not be a style I would go with on a C5 or C6, but that's just my opinion.

the closest thing Ive seen to that would be ghost flames accented with a very conservative pin stripe outline, that would be close to old school 50's hotrod pinstripes.

here is an old school look, certainly not ghost flames. but old school flames none the less. A former Corvette Forum member.

Hey OP, striper checking in with your post. In case it never occurred to you, I am a professional pinstriper. I do freehand painted pinstriping. I've been doing it for over 40 years and its been very good to me as an occupation. Since we have sister look cars, I have to tell you I have not done any 50's style pinstriping on my own car, even though many times I've been tempted to. On my last C5 coupe, I did pinstriped flames coming out of the side coves in a dark orange on the torch red. It made them hard to see unless you were at the right angle depending on the light. I was going to do my Z06, but after all these years I still haven't. I do have a double pinstripe going across the back just above the crease above the exhaust outlet and that's it.

BTW, I get a lot of people who ask why I don't stripe my own car. That covers me.

In the year 2000, a gentleman approached me at a car show and asked me if he could stripe my car, I thought he was crazy. He explained to me what he wanted to do and how he would do it. I had seen this guy and the work he had done. He was an old time stripper that learned his trade in California while in the service. He had done hundreds of car over the years at car shows that i had gone to. He explained that he used poster paint and that it was removable. So I agreed. In the last pic you can see to the far right his signature, the little paint brush and the year 00. I am glad i had it done, I do like how it came out. PS. He called them ghost stripes and you would be surprised how people react to them. Thinking they are marks in the paint.

I've always thought subtle pin striping can be very classy.

ET- LOVE the look of the ghost flames you posted. Very

Frank- That subtle stripe work really looks good on your torch...very classy and not overdone. I dig it.

Striper- I had no idea that's what you did...the forum name makes total sense now. I've always loved the look of the scroll and swirl and line design pinstriping. I recently picked up a set of brushes, some paint and just started playing around in my spare time as something to pass the time and also scratch that itch so to speak. It is kind of surprising that you haven't done more stripe work to your Z. I keep toying with the idea of maybe some scroll work on the fuel rail covers or something like that to dress up the engine bay a bit but that is just an idea for now. It will be a LONG time before I ever feel ready to take brush and paint to anything more than a practice surface. I ran across a few pics on google image where people had done some freehand pinstripe pinup style and other designs. very cool stuff. I may post a few pics if anyone wants to see them.

It's been paying the bills and putting food on the table for over 40 years. I still like what I do for a living. Problem with painted striping is that I can't change it anytime I'm in a different mood,so I've never done my car. Anything else with wheels, and anything in my garage that doesn't move might be a candidate for some striping. I'll see if I have a good example of my work to post, I could actually send you hundreds of pictures, but one or two might be more appropriate. I haven't done my engine covers because they have Corvette engineers and factory drivers autographs.

That's awesome! I'll send you a PM with my email if you'd like to share. I like to look and study other designs and see if I can disassemble it and figure out how they were done. Some designs are easier to do that to than others. LOL I've been just googling pinstripe designs and images on all sorts of stuff. Now that you mentioned it I remember you showing me your autographed fuel rail covers. Totally slipped my mind.

I've always liked pin striping too, though it's not in "vogue" these days.

Ha! That reflection on your fender makes the vette look like it's got tiny wheels.

I am in the "less is more" camp. No stripes or flames for me.

I too am a fan of pin striping. Have always thought a little goes a long way though. Go for it.

Before the Corvette I had a 71' Buick GS. I always loved old school pin striping but didn't think it would look good on the GS. Thank goodness for the inside of trunk lids!!

Had a local guy go crazy in there at a car show. Best $100 I ever spent!

I hope this is okay for me to post, but if anybody wants to see a little bit of my work go to www.paintwerksbyjeff.com. I've got a small sample of my work, and a couple of oil paintings I've also done. Anybody close enough and interested, don't hesitate to contact me.

I've been dabbling a little here and there but nothing near the quality that you have. All the time and practice shows. Thanks for sharing.

No pin stripes on my C5, but my C4 sports two thin stripes the length of the body.

There's a guy here in my hometown that has a white c4 that has a ton of red pinstripes on it. Job was done professionally but he went over the top with it. Looks like ****....
