I see lots of post about paint... paint protection, best product for paint, what can damage your paint, be careful to not burn thru your paint while buffing, etc.
The "paint" or color is a base coat... it is protected by a very durable clear coat... so we are waxing our clear, not the paint. We are buffing out scratches/swirl marks, etc in the clear coat.
In the old days most cars were painted with a lacquer paint... it would fade in the sunlight and when you waxed your car the color would actually come off on the rag.
Thank God for Base/Clear it is so much simpler to maintain and stays really nice without much effort.
It's no big deal... just seems odd to me we still refer to the finish on our C5's as paint.
