Default choosing my next mod

Just picked up a 2001 Z06, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I have about $1000 to throw at my next mod, and I've been searching the forum trying to get an idea of which mods are the best bang for the buck options. Right now, I have a cat delete and an intake from the previous owner. I'm thinking long tubes and a tune would probably be my best use of $1000. I considered doing a cam, but figured I'd need to get headers knocked out before I could realize the benefit there anyways. Is there anything else I should consider for the money, or am I on the right track with my line of thinking?

Thanks for any information provided!

Definitely headers and tune if you can squeeze in both for $1000.

IMO you are right on track, and right where I am also on my 04Z. I went with Texas Speed, but would recommend one of the big 3 used (Kooks, ARH, LG) if you can find them. Putting new cats and x-pipe on while it's all apart.

Headers and a tune would be the way to go, but doing it for a grand will be tough even if you install the headers at home. The only way I see that happening with name-brand headers and a reputable tuner is on the used market.

You will save a couple hundred buicks by going with an offroad X-pipe rather than a catted one

I recommend sticking with Kooks, American Racing, LG, or Stainless Works

I'm looking at these headers, and the tune will run me 250 with a friends and family price. I'll do the install myself.

I have same headers and x. install no problems. it was cold in the shop for the tune, 70F, but with intake and full exhaust and lightened flywheel I made right around 400/400. So im looking about 15 less than that on a hot summer day.

356hp/340 tq on a mustang dyno. Never dynod it before the mods so Im not sure of the gains. No doubt my numbers are a little low but apparently with a mustang dyno you can add about 30hp. It was also done in the summertime. The car is ABSOLUTELY faster than it was before the mods. I ran a 12.5 at 114 ( vararam only) on street tires before the mods were done so i'm interested to get to the track and check out the new trap speed.

As far as fitment issues, sometimes the texas speed headers require you to cut a hole in the tunnel plate. Instead of cutting a hole in my tunnel plate my mechanic re-welded the bung for the 02 sensors in a different spot of the headers. Its no big deal really, but i didn't do it myself. As far as bang for the buck I'm quite satisfied.
