My 1997 Corvette Work in progress thread...#projectc5
I do have to ask... are you keeping the chicklet? I've heard of them being taken off but not being put on.... I'm guessing the previous owner thought it might make it look like a C6??

yup, chicklet is coming off...along with this hideous thing:

If you see rust/corrosion has already started to set in, I would clean/sand the metal areas and spray with "Extend" made by Permatex. It's the stuff that looks milky and when applied it turns purple, then black when it dries. Stops rust cold.

I went through some similar upgrades last year with my Grand Sport project...

...good luck with yours!
So my goal was to get all the major issues fixed before Spring driving season and I was running out of time, so I took my car over to CK and John @ Underpressure Power and Performance to get the oil leak and oil pressure sensor all squared away. While there they found a couple of big issues such as needing new pads, new tie rods, etc. I told them while the car was there to go ahead and cover this along with a complete fluid flush.
While the car is there I ended up scoring a nice set of seats that look better and actually work better than what was currently in the car.
Nice picture the day i drove the car down to Underpressure Power and Performance

New seats!!

So I bought some new CCW rims for my z06 and decided to put them up against the red car to see how they look....I think i might have to order another set...

You know it's bad when your Mechanic throws up a post on IG complaining about your car...LOL

So after we left off I took my old black z06 wheels and got new rubber on em.

I went with sumitomos because they were cheap and had good reviews, plus my thought pattern was if im going to drag race ill buy dedicated drag radials, or if i were to autox like wise. They honestly ride very nice and have good grip.
Next step was I painted the exhaust tips black, The exhaust i bought had alot of carbon build up since the owner never cleaned them so i took the easy way out...scuffed them up and shot high temp BBQ paint on em. I love the look!

After:

So at this point in the story my wife started driving the car more and more and fell in love with it. All Modding was at a stand still. But here are some pictures of us enjoying the car!

All of a sudden tragedy struck! I took the car for a quick trip and parked it at the store, when i came back there was a puddle of coolant everywhere. I was afraid I blew a headgasket, so i had to take the ride of shame home.

Turns out all it was was a coolant diverter that had split, replaced it myself and called it a day!
The next step was to address the terribly worn seats (and the passenger power seat that didn't work)
So I ended up buying some seats from a 1999 frc with low miles and most importantly a manual passenger seat.
Remember how I said the passenger seat didn't work? I got kind of frustrated and just cut the foam to get to the bolts in the back of the seat.

Like I said I got a little frustrated...LOL
here are the afters...much better and much more comfortable:

So the next minor step was my remote kept losing memory, basically i kept reprogramming the remote to the car but the next day it wouldnt work. I tried replacing the battery but it did not work. I read on here that you can reflow the cold joints by tossing it in the oven for a bit here is the little riser i made for it

my wife would kill me if she knew i used one of her fancy baking sheets! but anyways it worked and the remote has been working non-stop.
So basically from here it's a world wind of parts, I had a small oil leak that kept bugging me and getting worse. Took it to the shop and they determined that it was the rear main seal. Since the clutch would have to be removed I decided to replace it with a new clutch, slave cylinder, remote bleeder, and one other thing...

yup, texas speed headers!!
Here she is at the shop waiting for me to pick her up!

damn she looks good, and she sounds amazing...i still need to get sound clips of the new exhaust!
so fast forward to a few weeks ago, I got the hyperflash and thought it was my bulb so i bought some replacements when i went to replace the bulb, I saw the socket was burnt out. I went ahead and ordered new sockets and replaced them myself. Yes they are crimp connectors but they had heat shrink on them so they are waterproof.

And that leaves us to today... After a year of pouring money into her and trying to make her perfect I have decided that I am tired of fixing all the little things that are still wrong with her and i would rather start with something else. I have put her for sale and ill probably replace her with a c6 or save my money and see where the c7's are selling used a year from now.

Thanks for Reading my thread!
