Default C5 Targa top

Is GM going to do anything about all the C5's with the flaking/slivering coating ?

I would bet that if they were it would have been done by now...I mean, we ARE 11 years after EORP...

By the way there is a ton of great info on restoring your top, the search is tedious sometimes but, usually worth the effort. Good luck

Seriously? After all these years since the last one came off the production line?

Surely you are kidding. The targa tops can be anywhere from 11-18 years old - GM is not going to do anything about them at this point. Time does take a toll on the car, including the targa top.

No- normal wear and tear . . . not dissimilar to frosting clear coat or C6 headlight lenses . . . . paint it or refinish it.

Default Lack of care.

Just like every part of these cars lack of care results in break downs. The lexan top is no different.

Outside of keeping the top clean and out of the sun when possible, what other care would it need?

Thanks.

After buying a perfect top two years ago and watching it go bad seemingly overnight, I'm just going to have it painted body color.

I have two Lexan tops for my 2001. First one got a rock chip after 7 years, so I got a second one. This is my DD and other than the rock chip on the first one, both tops look like new.

I use Zaino (Z5) on them regularly (wipe the top down with Zaino Z8 every day or two).

Just Google "Zaino Store" - it is a line of sealants which I have used on my C5 for years (and lots of others on this Forum). Other products like Chadwick's Triple Play would probably work equally as well on the Lexan Targa Top, but I have proof over years of using Zaino. I would not use "wax" personally on the top, unless that was all I had.
