If you do track days and autocross events I wouldn't even consider buying that car because of the auto. You said yourself that you prefer a Z51 6-speed. Deals are too easy to come across on C5's these days to settle on something you don't really want...
OP, While I maintain this is a $17-$19K car, why buy something that doesn't meet your requirements? One thing this forum drilled into me when I was looking, buy the car that you see and you want because it meets your requirements. If this isn't it, let it go, there are way too many C5s out there.
Goes to show that super low mileage cars are not the nightmare people make them out to be. They are like any used car. Except they are cool as hell.
When I went to the corvette plant the guy giving the tour asked us as a group" who wants to buy a used vette that has very low miles?" most people raised their hands. He then said" I have been working on these cars my whole life and that's the worst one to buy" lol He said they are meant to be driven, and have lots of problems stored for long periods. I am going to see the car first hand soon, I will not be able to get much info since the person that owned it passed away. I am going to try to drive it to see if any codes pop up, but I live up north and all the roads are bad right now. I did get the vin and gonna run a car fax on it. supposedly it is only one owner, I was wrong on the two owner. I figure if I get it at a low enough price, if I find out that I hate the automatic, I could always trade up/even. thanks for all the input!! I missed u guys, its a great group on here. Its been a while since on here. I will repost and let u know what I found out!

definitely depends on the price, and my wife can't drive a stick, and I could keep my current racer due to being paid off. I definitely agree with you in a way...

What was the tour guides name?
It really depends on how the car was stored and maintained prior. Any car that has been in storage for long periods may need some special attention. Still, a 5000 mile Corvette is a new old car.
You could have problems with any used car you buy.
What you will get with any used car. I like the low miles. I would like it better if it was In a garage the last two years. They are good cars. Roll the dice and hope you come out the winner. For the price, it's worth what you are willing to pay for it.

I guarantee my car wasn't stored properly and it still has been great 10,000 miles later. The car is black and when i picked it up it was a grayish white because it was covered in a 1/4 inch of dust! (thank god windows were all up!) I wouldn't hesitate to buy another super low miles car again! don't be afraid of low miles. just make sure all fluids are changed before you drive it any distance. I saved a lot of money by doing all my fluid swaps, wheel bearing, and idler myself. Otherwise im sure it would have cost close to 1500 at a shop for all that.

I would love to find a super low mileage C5 at the right price. I would not be afraid to buy it. Unless it was stored for 5 years outside without a cover. Sounds like yours was stored inside. That makes a big difference.
I am going to go look at it on sunday I hope unless another snow storm derails us. right now its only 3 degrees for the high, I don't want to be in a hurry to look at it. and I am trying to get a mechanic to go with me also I am probably going to go for it unless there is some serious questions about it and if the price is good. I think I will drive it and enjoy it! oh and the tour at the corvette plant was about 3 years ago, older gentleman maybe early 60s, I think what he meant was that if not stored properly they can be a nightmare.
