I considered putting an internal antenna, then I remembered that i didn't listen to the radio, so I just cut the orange wire. No more ugly RC car antenna
I have a hidden antenna in my Z06. How I did it is to take the stock antenna mount and turn it 90degrees to the left. Then refasten it turned sideways. The antenna shaft now points to the left, inside the rear bumper. The loose end was fastened down with a tie wrap so it wouldn't vibrate or rattle inside the bumper. Finally, the hole in the right rear fender was filled in and repainted. It works perfectly, the reception is as good as stock.
Here is one way an owner installed a hidden antenna in a C5. I have also heard of putting the antenna behind the rear fascia.
Hey that's my thread
If you have a convertible, the first thing to do would be to unplug the power connector off the power antenna (don't pull the fuse.. I believe it goes to more than the antenna).
You'll get decent reception with the antenna down. If you find that you need better reception, then try my amplified antenna method, or the internal sideways antenna that many have done.
The powered amplifier that I used works pretty well, but I took a cross country road trip last year, and noticed that the reception is definitely not as good as a regular antenna if you're trying to pick up stations in the boonies. It works just fine around town though.
Stubby antennas are popular, and mounting the antenna sideways works well too. If you take out the taillights near the antenna, you'll see that there is a lot of empty space in the rear bumper.
