This is in response to 73 Corvette's post about results of a problem, this one was different from the usual slipping A4 transmission. I removed the drivetrain and found that the couplers were fine; the transmission and torque converter were sent back to RPM. The diagnosis was the front pump on the transmission failed (see Bill's comment) and that's why the car wouldn't move on it's own power, when the pump failed it sent debris throughout the transmission. The pump was replaced and the transmission rebuilt, a new performance torque converter replaced the old one; all this fixed the original problem.
I wonder what percentage of the reported codes/symptoms didn't show followups because they were too embarrassed to admit it turned out to be just a weak battery.
I get intermittant 'service vehice soon' messages due to a c1281 code that I haven't figured out. It has happened ever since the car was new, the dealer was never able to find a cause.. Other than the message the car works fine, so I have ignored it. I haven't followed up because I have no resolution.
I keep it on a battery tender when I it isn't being driven.

Great question... but, it doesn't really matter, we've all made mistakes, no need to be ashamed. Heck I started a thread that my cruise control reset button wasn't working https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ontrol+working and was freaking out, was a little embarrassing but I got over it.

Perfect....I am willing to bet that between dadaroo and 8VETTE7, bjones7131, ,Bill Curlee, mrr23, 65GGvert, Lee DeRaud and some other really bright guys they can get your issue resolved
These guys are no doubt MUCH better than a LOT of dealership techs!
and I'll be watching... to see how it's done!

Thanks...I guess. But long-distance diagnostics of an intermittent problem is a fool's game.
Pretty much anybody can read the FSM and narrow down the issue to a manageable scale, but sooner or later you actually need eyes-on contact. What's really needed there is a Tech2 or equivalent scan tool available 24/7 to read the signals while it's actually failed. The dealer techs can only see what's happening while they're looking at it, and few customers are willing to pay the shop rate for the tech to drive it around waiting for it to fail.
(Since that's a steering sensor fault, diagnosing it may be a lot easier than sourcing the part to fix it.)

Your welcome.. I think. nay your welcome. And you did it again! This guy still gets excellent advise on an "intermittent problem" he now has better direction and knowledge than before you stepped in. Thanks again for your expertise and willingness to share it.
I agree too many threads are unfinished. People complain "search". Then you search and a bunch of unfinished threads that just stopped. Or people complain when you bring back an old thread. Those members in the old threads may or may not be active but if they are they possess knowledge on problems or mods that keep reoccuring.
Getting code B2588, or my headlights won't stay up, keeps popping out of first gear, HVAC controls quit working... the list goes on and often times get posted and then we NEVER hear back how it turned out!
I do lots of reading on the search while some have resolved the issue and post it, others just leave you hanging... like a great novel with NO ending. I guess if your planning a sequel it's OK but, if it's a problem then let's see the fix...or if you didn't get it fixed WHY? Where are you in the process... did you just quit? Forgot? Sell the car? Go on vacation? Get sick?
I know there are lots of reasons that come up that may cause some delay or no follow up... but if you can please do.
THANK you sooooo much to those of you that take the time to post the outcome of your situation!
Great example: venomws7 started a build on 3-8-11 posted/ end results on 7-28-11 cool car by the way.
I'll let you know how this turns out...
In reflection on this subject, I might be guilty of this subject myself without giving thought to it at the time in the past. Good post !!

If you want to start a new Tread we can see if we can resolve the issue. In the interim, You should unplug the SWPS and check the connectors and terminal pins.
