Your wife/girlfriend/sister's fingernail emery board works perfectly for that too. Being long and flat it makes the job a bit more even and smooth.
I would not use a decal from a sign shop. Likely they have no materiel that can take that heat.

Not hard to paint the calipers (prep is the key) and removing the paint from the letters is really easy and looks great.

I dipped a piece of old t-shirt over my index finger, dipped it in thinner and wiped the paint off of the letters. Looks great.

If so, you can purchase a paint pen and just paint the lettering. Will adhere to caliper better and longer than a decal and if you don't like it, sand it off or choose a new color. Most craft stores will have these or get auto touch up paint.
