Default Can't reprogram my two key fobs

I know when of my fobs had a dead battery for some time, but it was rarely used anyways so I haven't bothered to put a new battery in it for a long while. My main fob was getting more and more difficult to have unlock the car the last couple of months. I could literally stand next to the car and not be able to have the fob unlock the car. Then, the other day I couldn't get it to work at all so I replaced the batteries in them both.

Now, I can't get either of the original fobs to reprogram using the DIC procedure. I even went through and made sure I didn't have any codes in the DIC since I read once that this can cause problems reprogramming the fobs. So, it might be the receiver behind the driver's seat, but is this difficult to get to? And, how can I test it if it might be the problem?

Thanks for any help you can provide, gang. I really appreciate it.

So you replaced with fresh battery..the battery pins sometime break lose from pc board in remote, check for that. Also with new remotes check numbers on back and they have to match originals. Personally I think you will have to go to a dealership and have them programmed...I have never been lucky programming my '03. Good luck, Rob

What year car? If a 2000, (or even 97-99) try the fix above by 8vette7. They are famous for loose connections. If 01-04, you can buy new fobs on ebay for around 10 bucks shipped. Ideally, if you have a friend with the correct fob, you could borrow it and try the program to double check your problem.
You should always put the year of your car in your question, they aren't all the same. By your forum name, I'm betting it's one of the bad 2000 fobs.

Thanks for the info and the link. I'll sure be hoping it's the fobs, even though they can still get pricey. I guess I could run up to O'Reilly's tomorrow and test them, too.

Sorry I forgot to post my year. But yeah, a 2000. I was going through that link and it really had some great info on checking the connections on the fob. I'm going to open them up tomorrow and see if I notice anything. I sure do appreciate the help you guys offered. Thanks.

Good luck - hopefully it is just the FOB.

So, I just went through my main fob looking at the connections mentioned in the link thread. Everything looked good so I took the entire board out of the rubber casing and saw black build-up where the "unlock" rubber portion makes contact with the back of the board. I cleaned that up with some mild cleaner and put it all back together.

I just went back outside and it programmed right away. I'll try the same on the other one tomorrow. It's raining out now and my car is in a carport. I'll just wait out the rain.

Thanks again, gang. All your help was appreciated beyond belief. The issue was a minor annoyance, but one that got stuck in my head all day.

If you are wanting to reprogram the second one now, you will still need to reprogram the first one as well. You can't program them one at a time.

It's very common for the 2000 fobs to work a while then quit. You can't see the solder cracks, so if your fob stops working again, resolder the contacts shown in the link and you should be good. You may have just wiggled the board enough to make the contacts touch for a while.

GM fobs typically need new membranes when the get intermittent. You can clean the back of the membrane to get it working for a while but eventually you need a new one, 5 packs on amazon or ebay are cheap and if you use the foc a lot, you'll need another replacement in a year or 2 anyway.

Yeah, when I get the chance I planned on going back outside and configuring key fob #1 and #2. I was just glad to get the car even recognizing them at all last night.
