Just bought an 01 back in Oct. and after 3000 miles it's a quart low. I heard GM was replacing or rebuilding the engine on 01 models if you complained of oil burning. Being the car is 14 yrs old but only has 19,000 miles....does anyone know if GM will still rebuild or replace the engine?
Even if it were in warranty, I don't think that's bad enough they would rebuild it. I think the engines getting warranty rebuilds were burning a lot more, like a quart every 1,000 or less.
They did but that was back in the day it would be out of pocket now from my understanding. I have a 01 and it does the same probably more now that I think about it. Even worse since I put the blower on but it does have 100k on it but I didn't buy mine to wax it.
1 qt/1000 miles is consider acceptable by most manufacturers. Pretty sure the service manager wherever you take it will have a good laugh. 1qt/3000 miles they won't even listen to what your saying.
Put a catch can on it and put the oil it collects back in if your concerned about losing it. I barely put 3K miles a year on mine.
No drips underneath the car. My other cars never used oil like this....I'd go 5 - 6k between oil changes and they were never 1 qt low.

Chances of getting GM to do anything to a 14 year old car are slim to none IMO. I had a '00 coupe that had the excessive oil consumption problem - was eating a quart every 1200 miles. Mine was under warranty at the time so GM did the repair - replaced the #2 ring and it solved the problem.
Even though you might not have high mileage, this oil has additives that condition seals and a higher zinc content for these older cars. Worked for me.
