Just installed an slp loudmouth exhaust on m C5 and I love it! However, at idle it sounds sorta motorboat/tractorish, otherwise it sounds great driving around. Is there any fix to this without making the car quieter?
EDIT: Any recommended brands to compliment the SLP?
I have the SLP Loudmouths with the stock cats and H-pipe and really like the gurgling and popping sounds when decelerating. That's what's been holding me back from swapping out my H-pipe to the Borla X-pipe. I don't want to lose that sound... I wonder if I'd see any gains since I've also got a set of Breathless Racing LT Headers running into the factory cats or not. IF I do go X-pipe it will likely be the Borla one.
Part of the reason C5's don't rumble like other cars is because LS motors have a unique firing order. Instead of going to an x-pipe a true H-pipe would give more of a rumble. The x-pipe will smooth out the exhaust sound. The factory H-pipe is a joke. While it looks as fat as the exhaust pipes, the holes that are cut out where the H fits in are very small and not much exhaust gets through there. I think the holes are something like only a 1/2". It needs to be disassembled and the holes enlarged to the crossover pipe's inside diameter.

I'd heard that the factory h-pipe crossover holes were small before but I didn't expect them to be that small. That's kinda strange but I suppose that they "had their reasons" back when they were designed. Maybe it's time to pick up a welder and do some cutting and drilling...as an experiment of course.
The H pipe is only there for pressure equalization - you don't need big holes for that. SLP's basically being open pipes just pass through the engine noise without the sound deadening that even a small muffler provides. Personally, if I wanted that, I would just put a couple straight pipes on there and call it done. Or maybe a couple megaphones like they use on some bikes - now that would be loud.

Might sound crazy, but I love the drone and crazy loudness. I daily drive it all day, put over 3000 miles on it in a few months. The sound has been growing on me actually. However, does anyone know how to keep the pipes aligned? The last one to the left seems to be sagging a little...

I'm in the same boat as you. I've tried loosening the mounts and repositioning them and they always seem to move back. I'm not sure what to do to keep them aligned and not have a sagger/drooper.

That's no fun, I love the look and sound of them but I'm very OCD about my car so it always irks me to have pipes uneven
do you have crazy drone at highway speeds?
was thinking of buying the slp loudmouth 2 mufflers to quiet it down some.
stock with stock cats and manifolds its not that loud but headers and no cats with a cam it can get pretty wild.

I had to tack weld the center section where the its bolted to the cross bar. once you get it aligned with the bolt just pop a weld on the side of the bracket. mine hasn't moved since.
it will sound 100x's better with an X-pipe.. get a true X though, like magniflow (what I have to compliment the Long tubes and Borla Straights)
I had some alignment issues too.. ended up going to lowes, tossing some hardware in the cart, and building some stronger brackets for the rear mounts.. looks much better now

I have pondered that question for a bit now......that makes total sense about the firing order. I am an old 1-8-4-6-5-7-2 guy. Didn't even know till yesterday that the LS1 is 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3
