Default winter projects

Pretty much finished the winter projects on the Vette .
install curb alert . install antenna behind rear bumper cover ( works great ) , replace several interior plastic pieces that previous owners managed to break , drained coolant and replaced with new , checked and topped off trans fluid , had the Targa and rear spoiler painted black ( was painted with carbon fiber pattern , I am not a fan of fake carbon fiber . If it was real and served a purpose I'd be ok with it but that is just me . ) and the last thing that was done I installed the sound deadener .
I doubled up where possible made sure any little space was filled taped all the seams .
Last fall using an app on the iphone checked the decibel level at 65 with radio off , got an 89 . Today went out on the same stretch of road ,tires inflated the same , radio off windows up heater fan off ,set cruise at 65 got a reading of 84 . I expected to at least get into the mid 70's .
Some might say that the app was not reliable , I compared it to the meter we use at work , was within 1or 2 points .
After reading all the great reviews on this mod I wonder wtf .

Thanks Mitch45 I have been debating on the sound deadening for quite some time now seems like a heck of alot of work for such little results. I'm still On the fence on this one. Thanks for your input on this.

I won't mention names at this time , but the precut kit is offered by several venders. This kit was actually shipped short of some of the pieces and the vender new and made no attempt to contact me . The only reason I know is another forum member questioned the missing pieces and was answered on here .

5 dB is huge. That's the difference between a luxury car and an econobox.

at 5 db I do not hear any difference in the sound level . 84 is still 4db above what OSHA allows for machine noise in a factory .

Thanks I was just curious...I have had great success with Dynomat...I know it's not the only product on the market and don't really want to debate the pros and cons, just saying I, me, myself have had great results with that product... sorry about your experience with a vendor that isn't making things right......they should, whoever they are!

The vehicles that I did, I did everything...doors, side panels, floors, tail gates, fire wall, every inch of the vehicles....and I didn't just put strips in the doors the WHOLE inside of the doors were coated with Dynomat......the shut like Mercedes doors. THUMP....

Yeah the problem is that you're starting out with a VERY loud car. Dropping 5 dB just moves it from VERY loud to Very loud.

Higher end luxury cars will cruise at 70 mph at high 60's dB, tinny econoboxes are generally in the low 70's, and most "loud" factory cars these days are in the high 70's.

The decibel scale is logarithmic. Thus a change from 70 to 80 db is TEN times the sound intensity. A change in 3 db is roughly double. Getting 5 db out of it is not bad IMO.
