I've been toying with the idea of putting twin ls1 engines in a boat of mine, been researching it a good bit, it will be a site better than the 454's that I run now

From what I've seen it's a good motor for that kind of duty. The smooth tq curve allows it to run less than full throttle to achieve good economy and lower the wear factor. When you strip it down, put light headers on it it's a super light package too, like under 375lbs which is amazing!

I believe in the owners manual it says you can shake the car and it will unlock if the keys are in the ignition ????

My understanding is so different, in my opinion the engine has to be making some power before the shift, and to me it sounds like a happy engine running higher then 25-3, 000 rpm. I run those low rpms after I have accelerated to speed on the freeway, when I slip it into overdrive (6th) to save gas.

When I first got the car, I was concerned about the skip shift eliminator, should I get one. Now that I am used to the car, the shift points I hear from the engine sound are high enough that I have very little interaction with the factory gas saving shift control.

I would rather wind the car out than lug the bottom end. I really have nothing to worry about, since the car comes with a factory tach with a big red area and was designed to be released into a home market of mechanical idiots. Is idiot higher than moron? I keep getting them confused. I guess low function would be kinder, but then I know I am low function mechanically, at least with this car.

As a normal practice, I never let the needle hit the warning color on the dial. I do know that my car will survive a short trip into the caution area on the tach. I was in a speed contest, ran out of gears so quickly, that when I went to shift, I was over revving the engine. Good to know I have a margin of error, real pity I was the error. I don't want to find the limits, my wallet and I already have a strained relationship over this car.

Most things remind old guys of stories, here is a rpm/shift story.

MY cousin when I was a kid, used to drag race his El Camino at Lions drag strip, he had a hood with a huge Yogi Bear painted on it,perhaps because the car was brown, it was the hot rod fashion at the time.

Anyway, I was asking him about his new trophy, I was impressed. He said he didn't get to win that often, and he was in the finals. Said he got a good start, but by the end of the track he was loosing his advantage and had to make a choice, let the guy go past or keep pushing just a little longer , go beyond his redline to probably hold the lead and win, but, guaranteed, blow up the engine.

That trophy came up to my eyeballs, probably four feet high from the floor, I was impressed. I think once he blew his hot car , hot women took over his time. I saw no more trophies when I visited, but the women I met were all very nice and looked like fashion models.

I can see it both ways. One of the things I love about this car is its split personality: it's more than happy to trundle around calmly on surface streets at 1500-2000RPM, and then rattle windows and blur scenery without sounding at all stressed when it's opened up.

You've got nothing to worry about, these engines are really good.

I rarely get on mine because it's not much of a thrill going from 750hp+ to 345hp, lol. I want to keep my 40k mile C5 stock and just enjoy cruising, but each time I accelerate I come home and browse head/cam packages or prochargers.

But for some of us having a Corvette is about a lot more than just having a fast car...

I try not to rev my ls6 to high on track as the oil gets hot fast if you find open track. If you shift at about 6000-6100 it helps keep temps down vs living close to redline in the 6400-6500 range. On the street, meh, dont matter none, run it to the revlimiter. Mind you most of the time on the street if I'm commuting it never see's 3k.

Yesterday, a old friend of mine comes over and we decided to have a Margarita lunch, upon leaving the restaurant after lunch and heading home, a new black modded Camaro pulls up with a couple of young guys and throws me a 6 grand rev and it made me retaliate with the same. Next thing I know it triggers the old urge and we are side by side rolling in first gear and off we go, redline, grab second and he's 1/2 a car on me,redline, grab third and he's 3/4 of car on me, and I decide to get out of it, he slows down and pulls up again and then tells me what a 'nice' car I have . The moral to the story, don't have Margarita lunches with old friends then get your *** handed to you !!! Same as you, 345 hp, get home embarrassed, I need a supercharger fix, then I'll try another Margarita !!!!!! LOL

Dunno, he's in a brand new modified car pushing a lot more power than you, and he's only able to pull that far away from a 16 year old (what appears to be) mostly stock vette. I call that a victory considering a set of longtubes would have you winning that race. Those ls3's make good power even lightly modded
