Default Front Tire Size

I just bought a 2004 Corvette and it really needs tires. I decided on the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but the factory front size (245/45ZR17) isn't available and I was told by local shops that the tire was discontinued in that size. I can get the same tire in 245/40ZR17 and I was wondering if there were any reasons why I shouldn't order those instead. Will there be any issues with that size?

Also, these tires are going on the factory rims and the car has no modifications so it's at stock ride height as well.

I would stick with factory size tires if I were you ! if they don't make your size then look for something else ! I just bought 4 new tires for my car and went with the Goodyears ! Our Corvettes already scrape too much on the front the last thing you need is a lower profile tire !

I just checked tirerack.com and they have a decent selection in your size.

Perhaps consider a tire like the Hankook Ventus V12 - I run them on mine and they are a great tire.

I bought the Hankooks. I was looking for something substantially quieter than the old runflats that I had, and I am very pleased. I am not an aggressive driver, so I can't tell you about them in stressful situations, only to say I've never felt them slip and I hope never to do so.
