Very much a newbie here, so I apologize if this has been addressed before! I was looking at a 2003 Anniversary edition convertible as a possible purchase when I noticed that the right front quarter panel didn't quite line up with the door. I pushed on it and it gave slightly. I then noticed that the quarter panel attach point was cracked. The dealer said it was probably due to someone incorrectly jacking the car. Is this common or a big deal? He immediately dropped the price an additional $500 ($19500), but I didn't bite. The car has 68000 miles and seems to be in decent shape otherwise, but it made me nervous! What do you, the experts, think?!
I'd make sure I have access to the Carfax to make sure the car had not been in a collision. I am assuming that the cracked mounting area is the one that is near the door and barely visible unless you know where to look.
The only way that particular one could get damaged is if it were in a wreck or someone had removed the fender for some other reason such as a repaint. There are several attach points along the top of the fender, and three or four where the fender mounts to the front bumper cover near the headlight. There is also one under the car near the rocker panel. The only other one is the one near the door and it is well hidden.
Most likely caused by incorrect jacking point...Most car repair shops are unaware and don't use jacking pucks to prevent that. The correct way to repair is a new panel and paint.
Thanks for the quick responses, guys! Carfax shows no accidents, but I know that isn't 100% reliable. I think I'm going to pass on this car as I've just started looking and don't want to rush into anything! It sure is a beautiful car, though!

If you haven't read the sticky on buying a C5 it would be well worth the time...
Sticky: Help for buying a C5 and also some technical information files, they are at the top of the C5 General page.
I breezed through the sticky and didn't see this... so, If your looking at a 2004 check the VIN there was a recall on gas tank crossover leaks and if it wasn't done and is an issue it's about a $2500 fix the VIN # that were affected are
VIN 45110258 to 45125500

Yep, I agree! After looking at some of the cars that have been for sale on this forum, there seem to be some real beauties in better shape with a lot less miles for not much more money! I'll keep looking.
