Default Did I do a bad thing?

Feeling sort of emotional right now, I go from happy to unsure to full of regret, and back to happy again.

Long story short, I wanted a C5 for a long time, I took the advice of this forum and waited patiently for the right one to come my way , and then it did, my lovely FRC, black on black 6 speed, pretty much my ideal car.

So as a birthday present for myself , I bought it, and ive loved it , really its a great car, fun to drive, gives me a lot of joy and gets a lot of attention.

Today , I was offered a very good price for the car, basically a 4.5k profit for me, and so I took it.

So what I tell myself is that with the money I have now I can buy a better car.

I also tell myself it was a pre-01 so it was possible I would eventually be dealing with some of the ecbm and Steering sensor issues, and ive saved myself the hassle.

I also pay ALOT for parking, $100 per month, so ive saved myself that money as well as the extra insurance and the costs involved of owning the car itself.

On the other hand I remind myself that I bought this car to enjoy life, as ive had a very rough go for a while and this car helped clear my mind of all that.

I tell myself that I was so close to finishing the car and having it look the way I wanted and its a shame to get rid of it when I was so close.

The other thing is its super rare to get an FRC here in Canada, im not even sure they were offered at all, mine was a states car originally and was a total gem in every way.

So to say I can just find another one is not very realistic.

Anyways , what do you guys think?

Would you guys sell your car for a profit similar to mine????

I paid about $50k for my 2001 new and have dropped at least another 25k into it to get it the way I want it, but "Yes", if someone offered me $4,500 more than what "I" paid for it, I would be forced to consider it.

The fun is in the build. You can find another corvette and have an extra few k to spend on modding it to your liking.

In order to help you feel better about your decision, I will sell you my 2013 C6 Z06 for just $2,000 above what I paid. This way you can feel better again.

My advice would be start looking for a 03 or 04 convertible with summer on it's way.

A "new" C5 will let you forget about the one you just sold.
Before I bought my 04 last may, I wrestled with the same situation you were in.
Would you sell this beauty even though the profit margin was less than what you got?

It was a tough decision because I really liked my Tbird, but I wanted a Corvett more, so I made the decision to sell it, then when my 04 convertible was home in my driveway, I was glad I sold the bird.

Bob.

You did the smart thing. It is not a collectable and there are more out there. I agree with your comments about the pre '01 cars. They are basically the same but have a few non repairable components. The insurance, parking etc..will still apply no matter what you drive so you may as well be in something you always wanted.

Take the profit and go buy a C5 Z and you will be happier than a pig in.....

I have spent several years getting my car to where it is, I would have had to pass, but everyone is different, sure you will find another Vette, and the journey to get it like you want is very enjoyable, to be honest when your done it gets kinda boring.

Now go find another Corvette

I love the hard top Vette great looking car

You did not own that car long enough to fell any ties to it. You well able to make a few bucks and you jumped on it. To answer your question no I

would not sell my car. I have been offered a nice amount of money for it that i turned down.

1/2 the fun is in the build....ask me how I know. If you have a chance to make money with your hobby then take it because that's rare. I did the same thing (offer I couldn't refuse), felt the same as you at the time and got over it fast when I got my next toy.

My car is worth a lot more to me than it would be to anyone else, but I probably would have before I started personalizing and modifying it.

OP, if I remember correctly, in a previous discussion, didn't you mention living in an apartment building, with an underground garage, or am I thinking of someone else? If it was you, I can see why that living arrangement would take away some of the joy of owning a "toy car".....

Personally I think you made a wise choice. Making a decent profit off the car is not common these days so when you can do it, it's a no brainer. And yes, there are other very nice Corvettes out there that you could get as a replacement.

Not many actually "profit" from selling so congrats!

Time to find another!

Depends on whether or not I REALLY liked the car. Yea U can get another car but do U know what U R getting, maybe someone else problems and if U know your car is sound and U like, it keep it, money isn't everything. On the other hand sell the car and set home and count your money, all comes down to what U want to do. Great suggestions from all.

Our opinions are a bit irrelevant as you already sold the car!

I think you made a significant error (assuming you are going to replace it and liked it.)

I am in Canada and fixed roof cars were always sold here. Second if you knew your car was sorted and had no issues why take the risk for a replacement. To start; whatever you buy you will have to pay the sales tax on. I think that will be good for about $2000 of your "profit" Maybe less but still a significant amount. What if there are issues with the replacement? Any repair required will eat into your "profit" What if it needs tires sooner than the sold one? Would you replace the fluids in a new car? Not inexpensive.

It becomes a question of risk and economics and the trade off just doesn't make sense.

I bought my car from the US last year. If I used your logic I should sell it back to the US and make 30% if I sold it at the same price in $US as I paid! (For the benefit of most members here the Canadian $$$ has tanked as compared to the US $$$ in the past year.)

Sorry to spoil it for you but you asked!
