Just curious as to how many of you have run up against similar situations with someone who just doesn't understand that you just don't borrow a 'Vette like you might a pick-up truck.
One of my students asked me if he could borrow my 'Vette for Prom to impress his date. First of all, we all know what a teenage driver does (just cannot physically resist) when they get their hands on a serious performance car and are out of sight of those who might cast a judicious eye. We all did it and you know I'm right. (By the way, I have ridden with this boy in his truck and he drives like a typical teen, too fast and too little attention payed to situations.) Second of all, what would I say to their parents after the worst had happened? Third of all, you just do not put a world class capable sports car in the hands of an unsupervised, hormone ruled, relatively inexperienced teen driver. Fourth of all, it is my only car and I cannot take the chance of having something happen to it, my job depends on my ability to get to work. I have learned this lesson a couple of times previously with friends and family that tear it up and then cannot afford to repair it!! Then they get pissed at you because you expect them to make it right!!!!!!! How does that work?!?!?!? You broke it, you fix it!!!!!! Period!!!!! Fifth of all, and this is what I am basing it all on, right on my policy it says "No other drivers", which means that if something did happen, not only would I not be covered, I would probably be cancelled!!
The ignorance of youth must be blissful for them.........but not for the rest of us!!!!!!!
My oldest son really impressed his prom date when he was in high school, he rented a limo. I loved it. I knew they're going to drink, even though they denied it. But I didn't have to worry cause someone else did the driving. I forget how much I had to chip in for the limo, but it was money well spent.
They do rent them, don't know the age requirements ?????? How about the beer did he ask for that too ??????????
Enterprise rents them. I was offered a C7 by Enterprise last January in Boston. I'm speaking on best recollection, but as I recall, they wanted around $400 per day, maybe more. I remember commenting that it was expensive and the representative reminded me that I was a frequent renter and a preferred renter and she had already applied discounts. As for age, you have to be at least 25 to rent a vehicle. I'm not sure if there were additional requirements for the C7.
BTW, I passed on the C7.
One of BIL's and my FIL drove mine, once each. Other than that my wife once in a while. Friends, if I had students, etc., nope, not gonna happen. Wanna drive a Corvette, buy or rent one.

I know guys who are even less likely to loan out their trucks than I am to loan out my 'Vette.

So far I've not run into that type of situation, but some day I hope on of my grandkids asks to borrow my Vette for a special event. Doubt I would say no to that request.
I couldn't tell him no...honor student, All district football, accepted to Colorado School of Mines. If more of the youth of today were like him, our futures would be in good hands.
But, I certainly wouldn't let someone I barely know borrow my vette or my toothbrush.
That's my buddy, he's wore the pink gloves for the last two years to support his Gran ma... fighting breast cancer. Always finds her before games to give her a kiss and a hug.... what a kid! I guess you can tell I'm a little proud of him.

My grandson is only 3 years old, but if he was like yours I'd have to say yes. Sounds like a very special young man. I'm sure you're very proud of him, as you should be.
Well, I wouldn't loan my vette to the young man you describe.
However, I have no problem letting friends use the car for an evening or a weekend.
My wife and I enjoying sharing our vert with others almost as much as we enjoy using it ourselves.
If friends want to use the car on a warm summer evening to throw down the top, go for a cruise and to dinner or something, we are happy to have them enjoy it as well!
