I have a 99 with the standard 17/18 tire & wheel combination.... 8.5/9.5 wheel widths.. I'm looking at aftermarket 17/18 wheels that are 9.5/10.5 (1" wider)... Will I have issues with the tires stretching to fit...
Specs for a given tire size tell the recommended wheel widths.
How long have the tires been on the current rims???
Are they Run Flats????
I sold my old wheels that were 1/2" wider than OEM widths to a friend. His tires were run flats that had been on his wheels almost 10 years. Tires initially sealed but he had two that would go flat just sitting for a few days. New tires (same size) and they sealed perfectly.
The fronts 245/45/17...are new
The rears 275/40/18...are 1 yr old
They are not run flats..........
If you go to a site like Tire Rack and look up the tires by size and then click on the specs for any manufacturer tire of the size, you get, among other specs, the recommended wheel width range for the size.
For the 245.45-17 the range is 7.5" to 9.0" and for the 275/40-18 the range is 9.0 - 11.0.
You will stretch the fronts a little on 9.5 wheels but they should be OK. Rears are obviously fine on a 10.5" wheel....
