I have been wanting to paint my calipers yellow for some time now but never got to it ! so lately i took a closer look at my calipers and they are kind if a goldish color and are shiny/smooth finish ,now im thinking this is going to be harder to sand and paint ! i have owned this 2000 FRC for about 3 years now ! can anyone tell me please if i have the stock GM calipers or I have after market ? aren't the GM's just dark grey and not shiny ?
my calipers do say Corvette on them in black and I also have drilled rotors.
C5 calipers (except for the Z06) were a gray color. They are a semi-smooth finish. The letters on the front calipers were not painted. It sounds like a previous owner painted the calipers and the letters.
You should be able to scuff the paint, clean them thoroughly, and then paint them in another color. With careful masking, you won't even have to take them off the car.
Same with the rotors; stock rotors were not drilled or slotted. You have aftermarket rotors.
The only difference between the base calipers and the Z06 calipers is that the Z06 calipers are red from the factory.
I painted my stock calipers black with out removing the wheels (between the spokes) Easy as falling off a log. Get a rattle can of color you want to paint calipers a small paint brush and spray some paint in the cap of the can. Dip the brush in the pain and paint away. After dry get a piece of medium grit sandpaper and carefully scuff off the paint off the CORVETTE letters. Can use any rust paint eg. Tremclad. Heat is not an issue!! Beer is optional. Good luck, what can go wrong unless someone moves the car while you still are painting!?!? lol

no offence but that is the worst advise i have ever rear or heard of when telling someone how to paint caliper's on a car...wow...
Personally, I don't think paint holds up as well as powder coating. I also think it gives you a smoother finished surface. I know it's more expensive and you have to take your calipers apart, but to me the end result is well worth it. I've seen calipers painted with a rattle can and a brush, and I'd definitely use a can. I have a friend that used a brush on his calipers and even though it's supposed to smooth out, you can still see brush marks on them.

Not so sure about the powder coat method, seems to leave a blurry finish...

The picture is fine. I think your eyes must be getting bad.
My Memorial Day project - powder coated calipers, Stop-Tech rotors, Hawk pads, stainless steel lines. I have the caliper grease and blue loc-tite (they even make a gel now). Thanks to others who have posted on this topic - been gathering up The Knowledge for D-Day. Any tips on how to "completely change" the fluid also appreciated.
