Been struggling to find a tire shop that can reset the new sensors that were installed with my tires. Had a Goodyear dealer mount and balance put the tires on myself took it back and they have a calibrator (sp) but I knew I was in trouble when they said whats the damn magnet for..It keeps telling me to use a magnet..Ive thought about going back and telling them what its for after research and reading what its for.
YIKES, I hope you don't need service too often in your neck of the woods !! Reminds me of the old commercial," I always wanted to try and fix a transmission". , good luck with finding someone, YIKES again !!
Bought a magnet off ebay and trained my sensors in about 2 minutes. My tire store had never heard of using magnets to train TPMS, either. I told them to pick up a magnet for the next Corvette they get in.
I've heard speaker magnets make great sensor tools if you have any laying around. When I had mine installed that's what I planned on doing but the auto place that flipped the system on for me did it for me without even asking.
Got my magnet from my local Ace Hardware. Biggest one they stocked and it works great. Old speaker magnets will work too. Not going to shut your car down without them trained. Many people don't even use them at all for whatever reason. Just gets annoying to see the DIC information each time you start the car.
I had an old 700 watt microwave that I took apart w/a little help from YT and it has two pretty powerful magnets that worked setting my new TPS on the new wheels. It took about 4-5 tries before the LR finally read (the horn will honk w/each sensor) setting the system and it's working fine.

Probably something to ask about BEFORE buying the tires from a vendor.
This is kind of a rant, but, I've seen this several times and it's another case, of simply... find a different shop that actually knows what the hell they are doing... if you don't know, you certainly need someone that does know! I drive quite a few miles out of my way to go to a shop that I trust to work on my vehicles for anything that I can't or don't want to do myself. It's inconvenient and it's time consuming, I had to research and find a qualified shop with qualified techs and then I stood over them while they worked on my car, to make sure it was being done right... they are car guys, and we just visited about cars while I watched, so they didn't mind. But, I didn't really care if they liked it or not...it's my car and I'm paying them to work on it and I want it done right! If they would have had a problem with that I would have taken my car and left... and the search would have continued for someone that I could trust to work on it. I have been back and will continue to support this business with my other vehicles as well, because they do quality work...

Most guys that work at tire shops are pretty young and may have never worked on a C5 since most guys serviced them at dealerships early on, they are getting old and we put so few miles on them. Newer TPMS don't train with magnets. Don't expect top notch techs to be mounting your tires. Those guys won't work for those kind of wages. The tire shop I took mine did not know how to train C5 sensors, yet they have always done quality work and stood by it.
