I got our 98 corvette convertible out a few weeks ago and got about a half mile down the road before I knew something wasn't right. I turned off on a back road and got out and looked back behind the car and saw a trail of trans fluid. Took a lil searching but it appears the servo housing that is cast into the side of the tranny failed...catastrophically!
My question is does anyone know where I can get a new empty trans case. I don't really want to buy a new complete transmission (wife's decision).
I am sure there are many 4L60E cases. You need to find out what one works. Then go to a wrecking yard and get one from their core pile. They likely know which one you need.

Uh, you don't know why the case failed, but you're prepared to assume the internals are still ok?!?

New GM case "Kit" 24231450 $465.xx
Call Marc at vettenuts for a good used trans assembly
Call Rick RKT56 for either a rebuilt assy or maybe he has a case he can sell.

Best bet is to find out what caused the failure.

Another bunch of good advice if you end up needing to buy a few things.
