I would like to use the auto-train (Lorton,Va. - Sanford,Fl.) to move my C5 vert to Florida in the fall. Has any C5 forum member used the auto-train to transport their C5, and if so, have you experienced any issues? I'm told that you need a minimum of 4" clearance. I think I can meet the clearance requirement by removing the air-dams. Are there any other issues, besides handling damage, that I should be concerned about? I've used the auto-train to move my daily driver (Enclave) to Florida in the past without issue, but, it's my Corvette! You know what I mean. Appreciate any feedback you can provide.
What is the method used to tie down the vehicles on the train? The C5 used 4 J-hooks that were put into the holes along the frame rails and the ends of those hooks had an eye for attaching chains. Might want to ask about how they handle a Corvette.

I too would be worried about how they handle the car (on/off the train) as well as clearance issues. It may be a perfectly safe way to transport the Vette, but I'd want to check it out carefully before committing to it.
You might also want to ask if the train car carrier has side sheeting(semi-enclosed) to protect it. I used to work for Chrysler way back in the day and when we would receive vehicles by train there were numerous vehicles damaged from bullet holes, rocks, spray paint, bums sleeping in cars, etc. And request or supply a car cover for transport. Jus Say'n !!
