Trying to diagnose and gauge the seriousness of a squeal coming distinctly from the engine compartment under moderate to heavy load in gear, typically a low one.
I have noticed it's been wet or very humid out lately... so I can't speak of really dry weather. It does not do it while idling and no sound with the hood up. It doesn't seem to do it under low loads.
Is there a bearing I should look out for? S-Belt need replacing maybe?
Checked it out this morning, doesn't do it when cold... but it's also kinda rainy here in San Antonio. Hard to diagnose exactly when it doesn't do it while sitting still.
aside from checking the ususal belts, pullies, and belt driven accessories, take a good look at the harmonic balancer as well - they're notorious for messing up and can cause all kinds of wierd symptoms and noises.... see if it's wobbling at all, the rubber can separate from the steel ring.....
Does it make any difference with the AC on or off? My AC pulley needed a new bearing and squealed under load. If it goes away when your switch off your AC, its a good place to start.
