Body Damage Repair Estimate
I am looking at really nice 2002 but it has a scrape on the rear lower fender on front of the wheel. The scrape is through the gel coat to the fiberglass. It is about one foot long. It would require some type of filler and repainting. Anyone have an idea what this would cost?
Thanks, Scott

It's difficult to say without pictures, however, based on your description a good body shop would probably repair the damage & re-paint and clear coat the entire rocker and door sill to an edge to cut off the clear coat cleanly. Cost could be between $350-500. You shouldn't be able to tell and they will clean up any other chips on the bottom of the rocker at the same time. Many on this Forum would opt to do it themselves for a fraction. Depends on the overall condition of the car and how fussy you are.
I think you're looking for a ballpark worst cast estimate and that's what this is!

That sounds like a pretty reasonable guesstimate for the cost to repair the car.

Body Shops are a scam, I wouldn't be surprised if they tell you it will be $1000 +
Fender removal/install , wheel well removal/install , raising car on lift, space age base coat + urethane clear coat with real diamond flakes , hand woven fiberglass pieced together from the feathers of rare birds in the rainforest, the list goes on and on
I try to do my own body work at all costs, the last time I dealt with a shop I asked for a quote to smooth out my rear fenders wheel wells on my lexus , I believe the quote I got was for around $2k.

Does it involve the door (more than one panel) or just the fender? Also does it "go off the end" of the panel - edges are tricky. I recently had some paint done on my '00 and the area beyond the scratches that was sanded away surprised me. I marked in red where the scratches were (they speculated someone used a scraper to remove ice). Just this repair/repaint (scratches just barely through the clear coat) was about $650 (I had some other repairs done on the sides).
