I've already lowered my 2004 coupe all the way down front and rear about 2 years ago. Last summer I added new wheels and tires and now I'm thinking of going a bit lower in the front. The rear sits nice IMO as it is.
So what is the difference in using aftermarket front lowering bolts found online at forum vendors, C6 front bolts, and the OEM bolts I already have? I'm thinking about another 1/2 inch taken out to sit just right.
Next question on this subject...cutting the front bushing off just gives you back the height of the bushing? And removing them all together gives you how much and at the risk of rubbing the leaf spring on the control arm?
I can't speak about the difference between any of the bolts but I can say that I took mine out completely and it dropped it really nice. No negative handling issues. I put 7" bolts in the back.
my understanding is that aftermarket lowering kits use exactly C6 bolts for the front.
So what will aftermarket bolts and/or C6 bolts do for me in the front of my C5 that I can't do today with the current OEM bolts? How much more will it take the car down?
And anyone got more on my other question:
By removing the OEM C5 bolts all together how much more drop should I expect? The risk here is the of rubbing the leaf spring on the control arm correct? So some add a rubber pad in there?
^ This. That's what I did in mine and have been for 4+ years and 50,000 miles. Last time I looked at the front spring there was very little signs of wear. And by very little I mean just some minor scuffing of the surface that contacts the control arm.
But back to your original question OP, MOST of the aftermarket lowering bolts for the fronts are in fact C6 bolts.
Thanks everyone. Did some more searches late last night in the Tech section and read numerous posts. Finally came across some how to threads that helped me understand what the front bushings actually looked like. I didn't realize how thick they were compared to the aftermarket/C6 bolts. Plus the task of removing them isn't nearly as daunting as I originally thought.

I'm running a set of C6 Z06 shocks. They've been holding up fine with the lowering achieved by removing the front bolts and using longer ones in the rear to match height.
