So im getting codes P1111 and P0113 , I am going to the dealership on
Monday to get a new sensor and maybe the cable that attaches to it,
I tried to pull the sensor out but its not coming out , do I have to remove the hose to remove it from the inside or just pull on it a little harder ? also if I buy the cable also how do I install the cable ? does it go all the way to the MAF sensor ? I do have SLP Blackwing intake!
thank you guys for input on this.
Thanks guys and 8Vette7, I just posted a similar thread is the Tech section as I waited all day yesterday and didn't get any replies, so what I did is I managed to finally pull the sensor out, I had the car for 3 years and bought it with the Blackwing , he did use the factory set up ! I went this morning and got a new sensor, plugged it in ( after I had unplugged the battery cables of course and rest the codes) and drove the car for few minutes then the check engine light came back on !
so I just wasted 30 bucks on something I probably did not need but its good I changed it anyways.. so what do you guys think ?
I am sorry to Dadaroo I cannot download the file you sent me for some reason but that's what happened anyways.. the weather where I live is hotter than usual do you think this is the problem ?
Weather may be related. The sensor high voltage as seen by the PCM is a result of low resistance from the sensor which in turn is related to high air temps.
But, I would pull the battery and then the shelf the battery sits on and check for PCM wiring damage from battery acid spills. The diagnostic matrix in the shop manual refers to issues with the PCM and/or IAT wiring between the IAT and the PCM as probable causes for the P0103 and P1111 DC's. Since battery acid spills in the C5 is not an uncommon problem it is worth investigating the wiring at the PCM IMHO.
When I bought the car it had an Optima battery which I changed a year ago with another AGM Battery , I have inspected the tray before
when I swapped batteries and it looked like new! I don't think that's the problem, I have a feeling its the very hot temperature outside and with my Blackwing intake its not helping. Otherwise the car runs and idles
perfect ! Am I damaging anything or not getting as good of fuel mileage driving with a CEL on ?
The temp of the air coming into the engine is used in the PCM calculations for controlling fuel and spark to keep the engine running with correct emissions. Whether you will damage anything is a good question. Certainly you will not pass an emissions test with the CEL illuminated if your state/area requires emissions testing......
I would still inspect the wiring to the IAT as best possible. JMHO.
I can't see any visible damage ! I was thinking of buying the wire that goes from the MAF to the IAT if there is such a thing! , But I also heard its like a 100 bucks from GM so I think im going to remove it from its plastic housing and check the wires from the IAt to the MAF and see is there is any damage !
The wires don't go from the MAF to the IAT on the 1997 - 2000 C5. The IAT wires go to the PCM. The IAT is a separate sensor from the MAF for the early year cars. In 2001 they incorporated the IAT function into the MAF but even there the IAT wires go back to the PCM.
Throwing parts at a problem to diagnose it is not a solution I would recommend. You already mentioned you "wasted" $30 by buying an unneeded IAT. Good luck with that approach.....
You are absolutely right , I am going to wait a few days and see what happens ! Thank you very much for all your help and smart input.
This is "Sam". I can provide you with anything you need. As a minimum I can provide you with the wiring and connector views for the PCM to IAT so you can verify no wire issues.
I can also provide the FSM diagnostics for the codes and anything else you and 8VETTE7 desire.
They are PDF so you need to have Adobe Reader which is free. Not sure why the link before did not work for you. It takes a while for it to load and open up the PDF file.
Need you to PM me with your email address so I can send the info directly to you.
PS: Chuck, I can send the info to you also if I can get your email address.
Chuck, hold the presses. There is a P1111. I will have to add that in a few minute. There seems to be a number of Threads out there showing P1111 and P0113 showing up together.
If you need and schematics that are not in P1111 let me know.
Just did a search and there are some posts from back around 2002 and the several I looked at ALL reported the problem being the connector at the IAT.
OP I would concentrate on the connector...............
I'm going to check this out !
Do I just take it out of the plastic
Housing and inspect it ? Can I just buy this connector from the dealer ! I don't want to buy an expensive harness that goes all the way to the Ecm ! Hope I can just possibly buy this connector and I can maybe cut the wires and connect the new one !

Thank you very much Sam for your help I'm going to try this file from home again this evening !
I can always email info directly to you if needed.
If you have a connector issue it just may be you need to inspect everything to see if the pins/terminals are dirty, bent, or expanded to prevent a good connection. If they need to be removed to fix that is easy and we can explain. New terminals can be bought if needed. Rarely do you need to get another plastic connector.
