as the search continues I have two additional questions
1) I believe this as a problem rather than "just the way it is" please verify - The console lid easily swings open without having to lift it up and then swing it open
2) recommendations on what to do with a am/fm/cassette replace with a factory am/fm/cd? add a factory CD changer? or are there other solutions without mucking up the car's originality?
1 - Mine's on a hinge IIRC, just unlatch and lift open. Access granted to massive storage area called Corvette center console.
2 - Yep, they're on the FS/WTB section all the time.

not even big enough for a sandwich LOL.... ok so then if I'm not just swinging that thing open there is a hinge problem which makes me question condition or other items....
1. read your owners manual
2. The c/d disc radio is a plug and play replacement. There are plenty available. The disk cartridge player in the hatch area requires a cable and is a bit more work.

The console lid is a dual stage type where it will open a little then you have to pull towards you and up to get it to open the rest of the way. At least that is the way mine opens.
As for the radio, you should be able to find a good used AM/FM/CD radio for a decent price. In all honesty, going with an aftermarket double DIN unit is a nice upgrade and really doesn't negatively impact the value of the car. Speak with Dennis at Double D Mods about what he can do for you if you buy the car and want to make a change to the stereo system.
