Default Road trip parts

As I stated last week, we are planning a trip from Maryland to Ely Minnesota. What extra parts do I need to take. I figured the most important would be the 4 round discs to be able to put under the C5 on a lift if need be. Any other suggestions? I have 36500 miles on 2002 C5. thanks

Actually I was part of that thread. I posted this to get some consistency in what to bring. Met a guy this weekend who told me to bring a jack even though I am running run flats. Another said 2 pulleys and ever belt. But thanks for your reply. I did go back and read it again ( your link ).

Here is what I took on a 3500 mile trip to Connecticut last year. Extra hoses, extra belts, small tool kit(15 mm socket for putting belt on), fuses, electrical tape, duck tape, battery pack starter, can of tire sealer/inflator, jack, plug kit, compressor, breaker bar for lug nuts, rags, detailer spray, California Duster, Qt. of Mobil1, window cleaner, small bottle of hand cleaner and I probably will think of more later. It all fit in the compartments of my '01 Vert. We were getting off the main highways for much of the trip so I wanted to be ready. Did not want to get stranded since we had to be in Conn. for a wedding.

Turns out I did not need anything except the cleaning supplies. Next trip I will probably travel lighter. You might not want to bring everything I did.

I would have fresh oil, good tires that are inflated properly, check fluid levels and have fun.

If you have run flats delete most of tire stuff.

Hey, you got to look sharp out there. I also brought a California Water Blade. It worked great to get the morning dew off and then a quick detail spray and wipe down.

Last fall, the battery died in my wife's car and she had to call AAA. There was only one AAA service center in her area and it took almost 4 hours for him to get to her.

I take a quart of oil, some basic hand tools, and an air compressor/plug kit since I run non-runflats on my car. Everything else, I have emergency road service on the car and should it break down for some reason, I can get it flat bedded to a repair facility.

I brought extra hoses and belts because shops in the boondocks most likely won't have them in stock, will have to order them and that could cost you a day on your trip. I have new ones on now so next time I won't be bringing them. I learned to be prepared when I took long trips with my C3. Many a time a belt, fuse or some tools saved the day. Not a lot can be fixed on these C5s if it breaks.

If you make sure your belts, hoses, tires, and fluids are up to the task prior to leaving, you'll find out the most important things you will need are the Windex and towels. I take a tire inflator, pliers, plug kit, cell phone, and credit card. No need for much more.

No need to carry oil. Gas stations carry oil if you're in a pinch. If you're concerned, check your oil at each fill up. If your car needs oil between fill ups, you need a tow.

I've ridden a motorcycle for over 130,000 miles and never got stranded. You don't carry much in the way of tools and spare parts on a bike. The key is to get the maintenance items completed before the trip. Then you inspect your ride at the start of each day and if desired periodically throughout the day. Your car has multiple sensors and gages that can tell you the general health of the car while you're underway.

Remember your body is as important to take care of as your car is. Make sure you have sufficient prescription medications to last the trip. Set your overnight stops such that you can take breaks along the way to check out something interesting, compensate for bad weather, or unexpected traffic delays. Get sufficient sleep, eat, and hydrate. The driving is as much a part of the trip as the destination. Make it fun.
