Default Tires

Hello,
I have a 2001 Z06 and I am thinking about new tires. I have Bridgestone Potenza's . 265/40 R17's and 295/35 R18's . Thinking about keeping same size but maybe a differerent brand. Any thoughts ?
Thanks in advance

IIRC and if nothing has changed, you're looking at Michelin, Goodyear F1, or Bridgestone. Limited choices in the C5Z factory sizes.
If you can swing some more cash maybe look for some used 18/19 wheels/tires. Many more tire options. I kinda wish I would have...
P.S. put tire sizes into tirerack.com and you'll see.

I just got conti DWs and did so by getting fronts in 255/40/17 and back standard size......I dislike them because they are squirmmy on normal turns, not track, just entering freeway in a spirited fashion....they have very soft sidewalls but other than this rated very good a many like. I am going to take them back to discount tire and get the mich super sports even though it will cost me another few hundred bucks. good luck. love my 03Z.

there just aren't any really good all over choices anymore. the ps2 is closest and it's spendy

you can lean more on wet weather, more on dry or more on comfort but no tire does everything.

how you operate the car and how many miles per year would be helpful to know

How do you use your car? Is it a DD or a weekend/car show toy? My 04 Z06 is a weekend/car show toy and never sees rain. I only put about 2 - 3 k per year on it. I got rid of the goodyear F1's and was looking at the Bridgestone Potenza but knowing it was not going to see rain unless I got caught in a shower I wanted something a little more aggressive. I went with the Nitto NT05 and they are great. So it comes down to how you use your car. I am more than happy with the NT05's for the way that I use my car. Good luck.

Heard good things about the Nittos, but I love the Michelin Pilot SS tires. Of course I have 18 fronts and 19 rears, so many more tire selections available.

If you daily drive your car and are perfectly happy with the Bridgestones, then they are most likely your best option. If you want/need more traction than you currently have, then there are better choices.

Which tire is better suited for you depends on how you rate the importance of the following traits:
1. Dry traction (straight-line)
2. Wet traction and hydroplaning resistance
3. Cornering and responsiveness
4. Tread life
5. Price
6. Willingness to buy new rims to fit different sizes

Where are you located? I have a set of used Pilot Sport PS2. Still has 5-6/64's left of tread.

I used Nitto NT 05s before tracking the car and the price was good and it was a decent tire in both dry and wet. 275s up front and 295s in the rear. Discount tire direct still has them for under 900.00 shipped.

The "size" of your tire does not matter. The "stick" of your tire DOES matter. I recommend that you buy Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in either 245/45ZR17 front and 295/35-ZR18 rear, or buy some used (rear) 18" Z06 wheels and run one of the available (245/45, 265/35, or 275/35-18 fronts and you will be amazed at the stick (wet or dry traction).

For those using the NT05's or similar tire on the back, what are you using on the front?

Look up vredstien tires gullrio edition. Great tires for the price much cheaper then the rest and hook very well in all kinds of conditions. They come in factory sizes to.

I believe most people are going with the NT05 in 275/40/17F, 295/35/18R. That's what I'm planning to do. I just priced a set at Discount Tire for $897.00.

you may be thinking of the nt05R

the nt05 is a 200utqg street tire, solid sidewall, looks correct on the car, not the race oriented R compond

Out of curiousity, why are you looking for a different tire than the Bridgestones?

going from a tire like the re760 that does everything except ride comfort badly to a tire like the nt05 which is really pretty good & responsive in the dry would be my guess
