I have a 98 and want to do the intake swap on my car. I have found the ls6 intake from the parts supplier at my work for $275. Do i also need to change out my Throttle Body ? I would hat e to because i just had it ported and polished? Thanks for any info on what I will need.
Is it worth the swap. Did you notice any gains? Thanks
I would relocate your oil sending unit while you have the intake off !!!!
Also add about 3 to 4 inches and make a loop in your AC vacuum line it's the 1/8 inch hose makes it a lot easier to install the intake because you can install the line a head of time !!!!
I'll have to say there was some slight improvement, but at that point I'd already pretty well maxed out the "breatheability" (with bolt-ons) of my LS-1. This included a Vararam VR-B2 with Power Duct on the inlet end, and shorty headers, free flow cats, x-pipe and Z06 catback on the back end. The LS-6 manifold and ported throttle body was just the final tweak of my bolt-ons without breaking the bank. I also had ECS do their mail tune to make sure all the tweaked pieces were optimized. The whole combination certainly did make quite a difference in throttle response and pulling strength, according to my buttometer. One of these days I'll get a dyno tune to further optimize this combo.

Hoping not to hijack this thread as I have been pondering the same question as the OP. If the LS6 intake is just okay, what is the next step up? A fast 90?

Two good changes and could save you some hassles later on.
If you install the intake you will need to remove your coolant lines under your stock one and you will need the 2001+ rear plugs and the front crossover tube for the top of the heads. You can leave the lines but if you don't remove them then you will be getting your die grinder out to shave the bottom of the LS6 intake spacer ribs down. I didn't remove mine so I shaved the bottom of the intake. Not a big issue to shave it as I've had mine on for a few years now without any issues. I did the relocation of the oil sending unit and lengthened the vacuum line while I was there. That's a great idea.

I would recommend leaving the coolant crossover intact and either grind down the ribs on the bottom of the ls6 intake or what I did was just use a chisel and they popped right off... no harm done and I've been running boost through it for a couple of years with no problems at all so you will be fine... the stock intakes are pretty stout structurally so removing those ribs won't decrease the strength much if any at all in my opinion
What kind of real measurable benefit is there to this mod? I'm on a basically stock engine. Is is worth the hassle?
With both intakes side by side there is a big difference in the volume in the runners and plenum area !!!!! I installed mine with headers and x-pipe and with a tune, so with all these mods there was a big difference. I think I read somewhere with a tune it's worth 20 hp ????
