After buying a 1999 FRC Red Corvette and driving it for two years, I was pulled over and issued a warning ticket for "failure to display". The deputy was cool about it. So I remember seeing how Toque dealt with this issue and did something similar. For those of you wanting a better explanation, visit his website. He did an awesome job!
Tough luck. I drove my '80 for 8 years and my '01 for 3 without a front plate, was stopped several times for over the speed limit(never got a ticket) and the cops never mentioned that I had no front plate. I am going to continue driving with the cover over the plate until I get a ticket or a warning.
I drive my car only during the summer and less than 3K a year. I am just willing to pay the ticket. If a LEO has nothing better to do than give a guy a ticket over something like this, especially given it is driven so rarely, then as one other officer put it, "They don't give a S*** about their relationship with the public." I couldn't agree with that officer more.

I think it depends on where you live.
In Calfiornia, they find every excuse to make money , and ticketing for no front plate is common here.
Cops in these parts don't want to waste their time messing with minor things like the front plate on a Vette. Most of them probably don't even notice it's not there.
As for the red coupe with the modded front plate, I have to say I just don't like it.
To me it looks exactly like what it is, an afterthought.
It just doesn't make the front of the car look any better.
I know it is personal choice, but I would rather run the stock plate in front.
It looks clean, and when I get a frame to match the body color, the plate will look more like it was recessed in to the body.
But like the saying goes, to each his own.
In my area of the country most just use it as an excuse to check if your drinking and driving (drinking is very common in Wisconsin). Which I never do so I am perfectly fine with it - never even get a fix-it ticket.
Also it pays to know the law. In Wisconsin it says if you receive 2 plates you must install one in front and one in back, but never says anything about having to order another plate if you only receive one plate... letter of the law my friends.

So if I get stopped and I tell him I only received one plate, do you think he will let me off the hook? I live in Wis, too.

I was pulled over twice in my 4th gen f-body for it by the local sheriff, first time he was young and just let me go because I think he was unsure of himself. The second time was an old timer and he didn't listen, I politely accepted the ticket and took it to the sheriff's office to complete the fix-it ticket inspection... I explained the law and even had it printed out if the officer wanted - he didn't take it well but signed off an the inspection saying nobody ever only receives one plate.

Bob.
No money to be made on a no front plate ticket in California. It's a "sign off" ticket with proof of correction. No fine involved. Not "common" place in California either. As our Traffic Division Commander, I review all citations written by our department. I haven't seen a citation written for no front license plate in years.

I owned a '96 Z/28 from October of 1995, until last week. No front plate, and fortunately no tickets or warnings. Prior to that car, I had a 1985 Firebird, 10 years without a front plate, one warning.
I've had my C-5 since July of 2001, with no tickets or warnings........Knock on wood!! In fact, where I live, despite the front plate requirement, I see FAR more C-5s without a front plate than with one. It seems kind of like Harley-Davidsons and mufflers, around here...
I made the decision when I purchased my car over 15 years ago not to display a front plate, knowing that Illinois requires a front and rear plate. I've never been pulled over or ticketed for it, but if I am I"ll take my lumps.

I'm with you. It looks so much nicer without the front plate and it's worth what little risk there is. A cop would have to be a real douche to stop a guy for that.
