I've always found that the recirc setting cools down the car faster and that's what it is designed to do.

I believe either setting will turn your cooling fans on. On hot days you want to recirculate the air. Read your owners manual. It will explain it. If you don't have a manual for your car, read any other manual and it will pretty much say the same thing.

Safety Car
If you have the automatic system just hit auto. The car will decide what is best. I have reached a point where I hate to drive anything that dose not have that. Even semi tractors have it now.
