Default Borla X pipe question

Good afternoon forum and happy 4th,

I have a few about the borla x pipe. Firstly I was wondering if the x pipe would make me have to get rid of my cats. I daily the Z so I need to pass emissions. Secondly, is the x pipe not just unbolt then bolt in? Does it require cutting? Any information is much appreciated and thank you in advance!

The only one I know of goes behind the cats. You cut the pipes behind the cats, then clamp the new pipes in place.
You're doing this for sound mostly? Power difference would be minimal at best. Sound should be slightly quieter but more exotic sounding. Less burble/motor boaty.

Living in California I too need to pass smog inspection every other year. The x-pipe is installed after your cats so you will still be legal. If you are still running stock exhaust don't bother. There will not be any noticeable performance gains. I added one after having an after market exhaust installed. The new exhaust sounded awesome. Especially during hard acceleration! But, I could not stand the excessive popping during deceleration. The x-pipe took care of that by at least 95% or more.

Awesome thank you for the information! I Could never really find a definite answer around the forums so hopefully this will help someone out one day. Im doing it for sound and to eliminate any possible drone from the Borla straights that I've ordered and to even out the tone. I'm not really looking for any performance gains, even minimal would be nice. Buy yes I want to eliminate that boat sound from the straight pipes going to the stock H pipe. Thanks again!

Im going to be bolting on some Borla straights after the x pipe, I've seen some videos of it with the stock H pipe and it sounds like its bing filmed at a marina. I'm in Northern Virginia so I feel your pain. Damn, I kind of liked the popping, but hey, anything to stop that motorboat sound . Thanks again!

My car with headers, x pipe, and straights still pops and crackles plenty. I love how it sounds and would be disappointed if it didn't honestly
