Thinking of adding a subwoofer to the Z to get some deep bass response to the stereo (for those times when I want to listen to something less pleasing than the exhaust note!!). Infinity offers a 200 watt powered subwoofer, that seems like it would fit in the "spare tire" area. How would this interface with the existing system wiring??
Anybody with experience "tapping" into the existing stereo?? Or installing powered subwoofer??? Advice needed.....Thank you!
I wasted $350 on that POS and let me tell you - DON'T DO IT!! It's a piece of junk. I pulled it out in disgust and gave it away. If you want a sub, fine, get a decent amp and any name brand 10"-12" sub in the correct enclosure but what ever you do, DO NOT waste your money on that Infinity POS!
Thanks for the heads up. But how do I go about tapping into the existing stereo to add an amp or subwoofer??
all you need to do is go behind the radio and with a test light you need to find the remote cable ( it is the one that turns on and off w/the radio) splice into that... then run power from battery to you amp ( always put a fuse no further than 18" from the battery and also a fuse before you amp...) then connect the remote cable and ground and you set... also if you want a premade box that will fit nicely, look into jl audio's stealth box its a 10" sub and they know there stuff when they make these boxs... http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/c5.html
i had one in my car and have it for sale now. not because it did not work, but because i went with all new aftermarket stereo equipment. the infinity sub works well and for the money, i think its a good deal. if anyone tries to tap into the stereo or rear speakers, i dont think you will have sucess. the sub is automatically turned on when it senses a music signal. you do not need to use the remote turn on lead. for the hi/low input on the infinity, i used the hi inputs. you will need to tap into the front doors at the terminals after the woofer amps, where the wires are connected to the actual woofers. the rear speakers only play midrange and high frequencies. there is no low bass there, dont tap there. thats about it!
the head unit has pre amp and amp sections. the head unit offers powered output to the midrange speakers in the front doors and to the rear speakers. no bass frequencies are played. the preamp output (very little signal) of the deck, goes to the amps that are part of the woofers in the front doors. hope this helps!
Thanks Nate...that makes sense. Think I'm going with one of the boxes mentioned above, with an amp mounted "somewhere"?? Do you have pics of your setup??
I have an Alpine Amp mounted onto the upslope of the trunkwell. On top of that I have a 10" Kicker sub with one of those standard shallow boxes sitting on top of the amp, pointed roughly upwards towards the end of the trunk lid. This setup is perfect, IMHO, as it allows my amp, 10" sub, and still have room for a set of golf clubs on top of it. I can post pictures if anyone wants to see.
i dont have any pics yet as im in the process of installing the new system. good luck with your install. i think the jl box in the center compartment is the way to go. im looking for one myself...
