I thought things breaking was how you justified to the lady that you had to buy new parts?
To the OP, don't stress. If I was at your time in my life I would be driving it like I stole it and replacing anything that broke as I would want to be enjoying myself.
I can feel op's pain. just bought my first vette ['02 z06]. I'm 66 and haven't has a fast car in 10 years. Been busy with work but have hardly driven the car. Can't wait to try out 5th and 6th gear.
After what I said earlier... My HUD dropped today. In no way did I enjoy spending my Sunday off ripping the dash out of my dream car. But I'm so glad to have this community of corvette lovers to help me through the fix. As long as I can repair what breaks... I'm ok with it!

Driving my Corvette, by a 66 yr young recent retiree...
Well, grandson held the record for longest 'road trip', last year, Boston to Hartford Aircraft Museum.
Ex-Wife was disappointed, she missed by 3 miles on a 'coffee run' to Brattleboro Vt. last year also.
Granddaughters don't care how FAR we go, just as long as we GO.
Ex-wife now holds the record, as we re-ran the Brattleboro trip this past weekend and almost continued on to Albany, until the serious storm clouds rushed in on us. Turned Tail and RAN FOR HOME...
But last month was the "KEEPER"!!!!
Thursday night at the Malden, MA. VFW, looking at the TV about the WW-II flyover in Washington DC the next morning.... hmmm
Left the VFW at 11:45pm... Dunkin for a LARGE LIGHT WITH SUGAR.
Mobil for a fill up "PREMIUM"
Next time I stopped was New Jersey for gas and more coffee....
8:00am parked at the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall...
Afterwards, on to Virginia Beach, ..
Pulling into Sister's driveway, they're all stunned....
"Hey, I was in the neighborhood!"
Forgot to say "THANK YOU" to all my forum friends who posted so much information that there isn't anything on or in the car that I'm afraid to tackle.
Upgraded Suspension last year with parts purchased through the forum.... yeah yeah.
Fixed so many 'gremlins' all by myself, with your help.
And KNEW on that Virginia Beach via Washington, DC ride, that I had it all in hand and under control, because I now knew the car inside and out, top to bottom, front to back, with all your help...
Thank You All.
