Default Fuel fill problem

I have an early year date 2003 C5 which I brought back to Australia and the fuel flow from Gas station pumps must be higher here than in the USA i.e. I think the rate here is 40+ lpm. Consequently it can take me forever to fill a tank as the pump keeps shutting down (some stations better than others). Is there any thing that can be done to the car to accept the higher flow rate from Gas pump?

What if you just don't squeeze the handle as hard?

Yep do that but it does not always work. If there is no setting or adjustment that can be made to the car then I will have to live with it as I have been doing. Just wanted to be sure I was not suffering unnecessarily.

My C5 2004 does the same at the Mobile pump. Still searching for a solution.

I have found that mine fills more easily, without shutoffs, if I put the nozzle in just far enough to catch the first couple of loops on the surround spring on the nozzle. If I put it all the way in, it shuts off repeatedly.

You might try this?!??

When we first tried to fill our '03 coupe with gas it shut off constantly. I did my research on the forum and found out that if you insert the gas nozzle and rotate it 90 degrees to the right (rear) it will fill with no problem. As soon as it shuts off I'm done. Every time I have tried to top off I have smelt gas in the cabin. Every time!

Have your mechanic check the evap system. If that "clogs" up, the pump will shut off if gas flows quicker than the fumes can be evacuated through the evap system.

I recently bought my 2001 and had the same problem the first time I filled it. It kept shutting off. After playing with it for a while, I managed to get slightly over 3/4 tank of gas. The guy who sold the car to me gave it to me on fumes. The gas pump and nozzle wasn't that big of deal, but finding out how to open the gas lid was more than frustrating. If it wasn't for the internet or finding another Corvette owner, I'd still be at the gas station looking for the release button.

Yeah, but did you ever fill the tank completely?

My Volvo s60, has a small tube under the trunk that clogs and makes the gas not go in. Mechanic said blow air in the tube every year to clean it. It works, but I wonder if I'm sending dirt into the gas tank?

Here was some info that was posted on the forum a while back. Might be worth checking into.

I had the same problem the first time I tried to fill mine. Kept kicking like it was full. I found if I rotate the nozzle upside down it works perfect.

Thanks to you all. I will try some fuel nozzle realignments and if no joy I will locate best pumps and stay with that gas station. Your comments are appreciated.

Same here. Sometimes I have to give her just the tip at my local Exxon station or she complains too much.
