Just finished reading All Corvettes Are Red, great book. Never knew GM tried to kill the Vette. Book is about bringing the C5 on line and how 5 engineers saved it from GM'S axe. Also great story about what it takes to bring a car from paper to the final product and all the testing involved.
My library only had the audio version and then after listening to it, I wanted hard copy of the book. Luckily, I was able to purchase on line ($20) from a PA library that was selling their pristine copy. I have added it to my 'collection' of C5 stuff.
Great book! I read it this spring while laying on the beach in Florida - amazing how many folks stopped by voicing their positive experience with the Vette community.
Corvette, A Portrait of a Legend is an older book that has some of the nicest photographs of vettes I have ever seen. Easy read and ends with the C4 generation.
all corvettes are red is a great book. great look into the insides of how corporate America was working 25 years ago. amazing how long it took them the get the C5 going. the funny thing they talk about Honda at the same time was able to get a new car from idea to production models in 2 years, and most of the engineers were just in awe of what Honda could do. but it is a great read. just interesting how they test it, etc etc and battle for budgets and all the little details.
another book that is good is: corvette from the inside. it covers the history from the beginning in '53 through the C4...and hinting at what is to come for the C5. the thing that is interesting about this book is the talk amongst engineers that they really thought the small block w/ fuel injection and to meet emissions standards and keep gas mileage up that they thought they could only get to 250hp at most. just an interesting book from that standpoint. the author (Dave M-the head corvette engineer after zora) really seems to put a lot of love on the ZR1, and it's interesting to hear that the start of the development of the C5 and the LS1 engine killed the LT5 engine (it was too costly to make). but a great book.
