01 PUP CATS

hAS ANYONE TAKEN OFF THE PUPS CATS ON THE 01>>> IF SO DID YOU GUT OUT THE CATS OR JUST CUT THEM OFF ???

I removed them on my 01; they have to come off to install long tube headers.

I gutted mine. Simply remove the exhaust and dig out the catalyst with a screwdriver. You'll also have to make a homemade tool with a 90 deg. bend to get all of it out. Be sure to use a leaf blower to clean the pipes out before reinstall. This is a great mod. Noticable difference in sound and power.

Gutting them caused no problems.

I had mine cut off and a straight pipe welded in.

Will the car still pass DEQ without the pups, and with the stock 01 main cats still on? Or do you need the 02 cats to pass?

In SC there are no state inspection at all. that is the only thing good about the state>>> hehehe :smash:

Did mine, too. Just make sure to blow the stuff "forward" and not clog the main cats - or use a shop vac. :)

OK what about those of you that do have to go thru DEQ?

Just make sure the engine and exhaust are up to operating temperature just before any inspection. The precats "prelight" the exhaust mixture when the system is cold to reduce emissions until the main cats heat up.
The 02s have a different main cat that does the job with no precats.
