Default Convertible rear deck manual opening

My 99 was totaled yesterday and I need to open the rear deck to retrieve contents.

I have forgotten where the wire pull to manually open the rear deck is.

Please remind me

Tks,
Will

Look at your Owners Manual. Behind the Driver seat.

Sorry about the car. Hope you are OK.

It is behind the waterfall on the bottom back of it. It could be hiding under the trunks carpeting. Sorry to hear about the car but is everyone OK? Cars are inconsequential. Good luck with it all.

From the manual:

If your vehicle is equipped with a convertible
top/hardtop and you have lost battery power, use the
manual release cable to open the trunk lid. To access the
cable, remove the center storage compartment lid
located in the rear of the trunk area.

Seems contradictory - to open the trunk lid, you have to access the rear center storage compartment which you cannot access without the trunk lid being open.......

I agree, not a good location. Some cars have a glow in the dark handle that hands down near the latch in convertibles.

In either case you have to get a seat folded forward and crawl. Even harder with o power and you can't move a seat forward.

Since the car is totaled your best bet might just be a crow bar.

Sorry I didn't add that once you have the soft top cover open, you are then able to reach in and grab the trunk release. Which has a yellow plastic T handle and that also should be in the middle close to the floor of the trunk. You have to open one to get to the other. If you have a coupe or a Z you should be able to reach in to the trunk from the cabin of the car. The T handle has some velcro on it so that it sticks to the carpet right underneath the trunk latch assembly. I hope that all makes sense.

That manual release wasn't really designed for this situation.

I didn't think of that but I doubt it will work since the car is totaled and the trunk release does not work so I doubt that release will function since it is not mechanical and has no such release cable. I hope it does for him.

It is a mechanical release. Plastic T handle on a stainless wire directly connected to the latch assembly. You are saying the trunk release doesn't work, that is the key fob trunk release, which is not mechanical. The cars battery may no longer be active therefore the key fob will not work, that doesn't mean the mechanical release will not work. He won't know that until he physically pulls the cable. My .02

That plastic handle wasn't required by the FMVSS until 9/1/01. A '99 would be unlikely to have it.
