When I originally started researching for a c5 I knew 2 things I had to have... a manual, and I loved the hard top (frc) look. Only then did I learn exactly what the z06 was all about... made my search very easy
On my 3rd vette. 1st was a C4 96 vert auto, 2nd was a C5 00 vert 6 speed (which was alot of fun.) Now I have a C5 04 Z06 that I bought from the original owner with only 18,881 miles on it. I had always wanted a Z06 and after vette 1 and 2 I knew that the next was going to be a Z06.
I've been reading all the post since starting this thread. I've found it interesting to say the least. I've learned more about Corvettes in the last month of ownership than I thought possible. I love the Z06 because of the suspension, appearance, sound, performance, etc. However, I like the base coupe rear window better (fastback look) versus the rear window on the Z06. Convertibles are nice, but not sure I'd like the top down with wind and have to apply sunscreen to avoid a sunburn on my face? I actually like all of them which leads me to, I guess the best thing to do as many of you do, is buy one of each. If you can afford to do that.
Sure, and then you'd only be down on power and stuck with a whole bunch of old stuff, such as the Gen 1 TC, 97-00 BCM, etc
If you can afford it, the Z06 is worth it
I've actually had both, and I'm picking up another FRC at the end of the month. I've never noticed a difference between the "old stuff" and the new. Even on track.
I agree on the needing to do your homework though. Different strokes for different folks.

The biggest problem with the old BCM is that it is becoming a reliability issue
