Default installing a cags "fix"

Those two electrical leads from the plug at the transmission have to go somewhere. Looks like there should be someplace else to get to them - someplace where it would be a lot easier to put that resistor in the circuit and cut the leads going to the transmission. Sure would be a big help for those of us who don't have access to a lift or a good jack and jackstands.

Spend the $20 and get the CAGS defeat from LAPD. Have used this on my 2001 ZO6 and now on my 2002 ZO6..............it took longer to raise the lift that my car was on than to install the "device". :yesnod:

From your post I'm not sure if you're understanding things correctly. You don't have to worry about the CAGS connector on the tranny .. that hole simply needs to be plugged .. either with the all-weather connector supplied with the CAGS defeat, or with black electrical tape if you're doing the resistor. The resistor, whether it's DIY or CAGS defeat, needs to go on the end of the cable that normally plugs into the tranny. This harness ultimately connects to the computer, and that's what you need to trick. You can disable CAGS by simply unplugging the harness from the tranny, but the computer will throw a code, thinking something's broken. The resistor simply makes the computer think that the skip shift is still connected.

One other source of confusion, if you're installing the 'defeat' .. it doesn't go BETWEEN the harness and the tranny. That had me scratching my head for a few minutes, because it would have made more sense to design it that way (IMHO, of course). In fact, the harness going to the CAGS solenoid on the tranny is simply unplugged from the tranny, with the defeat stuck on the end, and the whole dangling unit wire-tied wherever you can find a place. The connector on the tranny should be sealed to keep dirt and water out.

Hope this helps.

Here are some pics at the end of this link:

You could also do this by backing up the car on a set of Rhino ramps.

It is just too too easy of a job. Lets say that you live in an apartment. No jacks,no nothing. Drive up parallel to a curb.Drive up so your rt front and rear are up the curb. crawl under the rear. It's the top rear trans plug,(blue and white wires).Install the thingee. :chevy

I installed mine without a lift of jacks. I drove 1 side of the car up on the curb (from the driveway), that was easy and gave me enough space to get under the car for the install. Its VERY easy.

Plug is easy to locate once you get under the car. Its on the driver side near the rear and towards the top of the tranny. There is a cast hole in the transmission near the connector - looks like it could be used to connect a trans jack to it. I inserted the zip tie thru that and connected the original cags harness to it to keep it from hanging.

THANX to everyone for your answers to my question! You've got me convinced to do it the "usual" way. Dumb me! Never thought of driving it up on a curb. (Don't even have to worry about faulty jack-stands or poor placement!)

Trust me Jackdog. It's the gift to yourself that keeps on giving. After a week I'm still so happy about this "mod". (I think it's like...2hp??)

Default what a differece?

I just had my 2002 quyicksilver z06 out this morning. Went to the Donut Derelicts car gathering in Huntington Beach. What a difference it made. I disconnected mine last week using the "el Cheapo" "do it yourself" method and it came out great. I had to use a jack and 2x12 blocks under the rear wheels as I did not have a curb handy. Many thanks to all of the members who answered my post 2 weeks ago on cags delete. Especially for adding the address of the $.99 cure to their response. What a pita it was. I really can't believe that I waited this long.
What a great forum we have here.
Thanks

My "curbs" are really not curbs, so I can't use that method to get under the car. But I now have access to a floor jack and concrete blocks. Where did you put the jack to lift the car?
