Doug explained that my car is pinging bad even after a sea foam. He's going to top it up with premium and see if perhaps it's something with my gas. He showed me the readings he's using EFI live.

A few new clients

My addition to the custom license plate list

Nice install on the LSX catch-can - a well-made piece!

Carbon build up in the combustion chamber can cause pinging. Have you been driving appropriately hard lately?

Doctor Doug's orders - 3 seafoams and call me in the morning! He had to pull 4deg of timing out because of my knocking. Hope to take it back in a few weeks for a re-scan. 90deg day with the AC on - running at 180 - the tstat plus fan tweaks made a big difference! Like Chris said - 'GM wants them running hot for emissions - I want them running cool for performance!'

180 is too cool.
Consequences of engine running cold are :-

Increased engine wear and corrosion due to a greater concentration of combustion acids, poorly fitting parts and excess fuel and water (condensation) in the oil.

Greatly increased fuel consumption due to car running in cold running mode with elevated injection phase/pulse width and incorrect operation of engine management and 02 sensors

Greatly increased emissions and damage to the catalytic converter and EGR valve due to the incomplete combustion of fuel

explain this for me. i use hptuners and don't see any cold running mode. what temperature does it switch from supposed cold running mode to normal running mode?

I know it was driven hard this week! They said it hit the 6250 redline no problemo. I'm thinking that the blowby through the pcv prior to the catch-can install may have contributed to some of the fouling. Hopefully the seafoam down the intake works it out and I can get my 4deg of timing back. Evidently they don't use weights in the distributor these days 😗

C5s don't even use distributors.
Ignition is controlled by the PCM.

At least you're in good hands at ECS. Hope the fix is something relatively simple.

I'm assuming he referring to open loop.

well if that was the case, a 180*F tstat wouldn't stop that from happening. closed loop enable is 93*F

Cmon Man! I know that much - just joking about Olden Days under the hood. They also tweaked some torque management stuff and also 'abuse mode' settings. Philosophy was 'GM gives you a narrow window on many of these parameters - we just open that window up a bit.' The cool running was with the AC on and I know that the cooling fan settings are lower - we'll see what I get on the highway with no AC.

Nice meeting you! Let me know when you are ready to come on back for a check over.

BTW, I love the stat talk in the gen sections of this forum, they are humorous.

Initial impressions are very good! It really howls. Will have to get it over to Englishtown and see what she turns. Will get that seafoam in there pronto and get back to see you soon!

the fans are off above a certain speed, usually around 35mph unless it has been changed, so it doesn't matter if your a/c is on or not while cruising... the fans are needed when sitting at idle or low speeds when there is little to no airflow past the radiator

I think you misspelled "highway" if that's what you meant.
The abbreviation is "hwy".
