my passenger side rear tire ? I recently got a flat tire on my right rear Z tire. Picked up a small sliver of metal. I took it to Goodyear and they said they were unsure if they could repair it. They ended up patching it (no plug) and said they couldnt completely repair it. (It was still leaking very slowly, small bubbles with water on the hole). The said since the leak was near the sidewall the patch they installed didnt completely take. So I then dropped the tire off at NTB and had them give me a second opinion. They removed the tire, saw the patch and said it was the most appropriate patch for the location of the leak, since they would use a thicker patch/plug and it might not conform to the edge of the tire. They then filled it up at 30 psi and told me it was holding. I went in to pick up the tire and the first thing I did was put some water over the outside of the hold. Still bubbles. I then asked him what was his definition of a leak ! He was pretty much speechless.
Anyway, as the tire sits now it is very slowly losing air. Maybe a half a pound over 2 days. Should I put this thing back on the car and consider it the best that can be done ? Any safety/performance issues with the tire now ?
I just dont want to spend near $700 for 2 new rear tires and mounting/balancing all because of a piece of metal that looked like a glass sliver puncturing my tire !!
Considering the location of the puncture, and the fact that the fix isn't working, my opinion is that you should replace the tire(s). I'm assuming you've got sufficient wear on the rear that you can't replace only the bad tire. If you try to live with the bad tire, you're gonna end up hating it .. you'll always be putting air in it, and you're never going to feel completely safe, especially in 'enthusiastic' situations. IMHO you should just bite the bullet. I feel your pain.
