I'm buying new tires for my z. My question is.. does it matter if the front and back tires are different or should they be the same? I already bought toyo r888 for the front. Street use only.
well, i don't think you will have water evacuation concern since R888 isn't exactly good in deep standing water anyhow. Strange you choose R888 for street since you won't able to bring them to temp to use its performance. There are plenty of other street tires can perform much better than R888 in "street" operation temperature.
I think something to think about is the difference in sidewall stiffness between front and back. Very stiff sidewall up front, but relatively soft sidewall in the rear will make the turn in feel delay and unsettled in the back.

I read a few people are running these on the street with zero problems.. not concerned with rain.with rain. But if I can use the
I never mix tires, especially on a performance car. Different characteristics front to back = irregular handling. Just my opinion.
Edit; dang, those are track tires. Oh well, kinda committed now IMO. They are available in 305/35/18 for the rear. I'd highly consider selling the fronts though and getting more suitable street tires if you won't be tracking the car.
I've ran different sets of tires on my car front and rear a couple of times. I couldn't notice any difference in handling or braking. Only thing i did notice was added traction to rear wheels thanks to the Toyo R888's i was running with 19's and Michelin Pilot Sport Cups with 20's.
