My 2000 FRC... I'm told it's rare?
I have a 2000 FRC standard coupe with the bone essentials... base model I guess. Well someone came to me and said my car is somewhat rare... I'm told 2000 was the only year that they made a FRC that was not a ZO6. Is this true? Any input helps... thanks!

No, they also made the (non-Z06) FRC in '99. It is somewhat rare in the sense that they didn't make a whole lot of them, only ~6K total, but not in the sense of being particularly valuable.

Yeah I figured rare as in number made and not valuable. Thanks! It's the only one I've seen in person so far. I see mostly convertibles around here. Lol

they built the FRC as a more affordable vette then found out they were stronger than the coupe, hence the Z 06 !!!!!!!!

Thanks! It's been quite a project since I've owned the car (it had alot of issues which I've worked most of them out) and I'm proud to be part of the family!

The FRC for 1999 and 2000 was made as a entry level Corvette to hopefully appeal to a new demographic. It was to become a very base model that would be priced less than the Coupe. The thinking was might attract some new buyers who may fall just short of the coupe price.
The C5 Vettes however, were selling extremely well, better than Chevy had expected. Therefore, it seemed senseless to offer the cheaper model (it really was not that much cheaper to begin with). In 2000, the FRC was killed (or at least temporarily).
For 2001, Chevrolet and the Corvette team wanted to create a more performance oriented Corvette and decided to resurrect the Z06 moniker. When they were deciding on the platform for the new Z06, rigidity for track use was very important. They had long since discovered that the FRC from 1999 and 2000 offered more rigidity and higher handling characteristics with less body flex and roll than the Coupe. Therefore the FRC was used as the base foundation for the Z06. Better shocks, stiffer sway bars, stiffer springs, etc. were added as well as a beefed up LS1 with unique heads, piston sleeves, piston shirts, and intake. Additional cooling ducts were added for the brakes as well to alleviate brake fade on the track.
The results were the 01-04 Z06. Of course in 02, the Z06 went from 385 to 405 HP, with different valves, changes to the pistons, and cylinder oiling, as well as a higher lift camshaft and changes in the exhaust. The rest as they say, is history.
A tad over 6,000 FRCs were produced in 1999-2000. So yes, it is a lower production number Corvette. Not sure that makes it rare or more sought after since most look for the Z06 and the higher performance numbers.
But who knows what the future holds? Could become a collectible and then again, perhaps not.
Nevertheless, it was and is the foundation for the Z06. That makes it a special car.
