C5 or C7
My C5 is just fine and suits me. I don't have to worry if it's gonna drop a grenade in the engine and be flatbedded back to GM so they can try and solve the current issues the C7Z has. GM will certainly fix the issues....I don't want to be the tester for them. BUT make NO MISTAKE....The C7 and C7Z are a fantastic looking rides and have LOTS of happy owners.
So again....if given the choice and I have no vette.... I'd pick the C7.
I love my C-5s, but let's get real here.

The C6 ZR 1 is a real performer, but the price is just too high.
Will I go C7? Right now, I'm going to wax the C5 and put a medical issue with my wife behind us, then we'll see.
So C5 vs C7, probably go C7, but if I stay with my C5, I won't feel one bit let down. It's a great car.

pretty much where I'm at too.

People ask me what it is
I tell them I don't know
There's just something about the c5 makes my heart go haywire. . . Been that way for eighteen years running strong!
I have driven C4's, C5's, C6's, and C7's.
They are all competent cars. All of them put a smile on my face when I drive them. Spending more money on a later model to get the same enjoyment (smiles) doesn't make sense to me. I want a fun car to drive and all of them are fun.
I expect at some point I will get later generations, but I am not motivated by others perceptions/opinions on having the latest and greatest so I will wait and keep a little (or lot of) extra money for mods.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I was parked next to a c7 at a store last year. A kid about 3 or barely 4yr old walked by the c7 and pointed to my c5Z and got all excited, hollering to his father--"race car, race car!!" It cracked me up. Yeah, I know, he was a 3-4yr old, but still, first (honest) impressions...
The second incident- In 2012, I got stopped by a State Trooper the day after I'd purchased the 03Z. The first thing out of his mouth was, "Is it new!?" He thought it was a 2012 model Corvette.
The lines on that c5 are classic. It just looks like its' meant for the track. With an additional ~$15-20G's I might approximate the handling, torque, and HP of a c7, but I'd never equal it as an overall package within a c7's budget. There's a unanimous verdict that the 7's just a better-driving car for a reason, and it has a much more refined interior. That said, the 7's just aren't "raw" enough. I love the c5Z for its' SOTP old-style muscle feel. The road comes up through the steering wheel in a 5.
The 7's just too damn refined. Years ago, I got to drive (and then sit in the back seat as it rolled) in a RR Silver Shadow. The comparative difference in luxury between a RR and a MBz 600 was stunning. (The US auto market [for the general public] doesn't even offer anything comparable.) The 7's like that against the 5. Just too damned "easy" a ride; "everything's" done for ya in a 7. I'm sure, in order to push it to its' limits I'd need repeated driving-course lessons; because for the 'little' mistakes I'd make in the c5, the 7 would save me with electronics... I'd prefer at my driving abilities now, to need the concentration. For my measly 20-minute drive last month, the salesman had a hard time fathoming that.
And I left with my money.

Well said!
And, all the 'refined things' on C7, add to weight. Takes HP to overcome weight, in racing.
At what point, does it stop being a sports car, I wonder?

Memo to GM: it costs the same to produce an elegant car as an ugly one.

My wife likes the way the C7 looks, I like the C5 looks more.
What do you guys think? That's all i want to see peoples opinions on.
Maybe she should buy a C7. Then we would have 2 cars we don't need

If that makes any sense.

I saw this comment and HAD TO REPLY.
Soon we won't even need to drive THE CAR. We will just be passengers. It will have a built in GPS and we tell THE CAR where we want to go.
And then we can go home and buy a movie for our virtual library.
I think TECH is making us into lazy AUTOMATONS.

I agree. But, at what point does it become a luxury sport sedan, and no longer a Sports Car, i wonder?
I've always thought of Corvette, as raw, brute power, road track performance. America's Sports Car.
Can it be that, with built in gps, cup holders, wi fi, OnStar and all the rest you'd find in a Lexus or BMW? What's next, a back seat for the kids?

I love my well modified C5 vert for many reasons. Still showroom new in appearance and handles well beyond the original C5's or any C6 except the ZO6 or the ZR1. I also loved my C4 ZR1. I passed on the C6 cars completely, but was considering a C6 ZO6 or ZR1 until the C7 gen began previewing in 2013 and I attended a C7 unveiling at The Petersen Museum's Corvette 60th Anniversary Dinner.
The C7s, in terms of turn in, handling, and ride are simply far beyond the previous generations in every respect. There is undoubtedly a C7 in our future. If we hadn't just bought a 2013 CTS V sedan we almost certainly would have bought a C7 coupe by now. The only question is Z51 or ZO6.
But, trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who had never owned a C5, C6 or C7, if money was a consideration at all I would probably consider buying a nicely modified C5 or a C6 ZO6. If money was not an issue and having test driven both a C5 and a C7 side by side, there is no way I would buy a C5.
The Zora doesn't interest me because I want the next Corvette we buy to buy a great road trip car which means carrying 2 travel bags, and either golf clubs or a pet is mandatory and that won't be the mission of the Zora.

My C5 is paid for as I assume yours is, with 20k it's still new. I have more of an issue getting rid of a perfectly good car that I love and gaining a car payment!!
I'm waiting for the Zora!
Although porsches are pretty unreliable money pits I will give them credit for sticking with the same design over the years and just adding to it.
The C3 was definitely a timeless design, they blew it with the C4, its not that bad but its a step down from the C3, they redeemed themselves with the C5 and should of built on that style in a positive way, not butchered it like the C6, and then they come back with another design from way out in left field with the C7.
Its almost like they have a team of people who have no idea of what they are doing and where they are going, literally all over the place.
The C7 is a nice car, but its a little wacky looking
