New Tires for the C5
It looks like it's about time to replace tires on my C5 vert (2001). I have been running OEM Goodyear run-flats for the last 8 years and put about 15,000+miles on them. I have been comparing various tires and am leaning towards the Michelin run-flats. Nothing against the non-run flats. Just like the concept of run-flats. I think I've decided to purchase either the Michelin Pilot PS2 ZP (summer use) or the Pilot Sport A/S ZP (all season). I don't plan on doing any winter driving, but the A/S tire appears to have a better rating by the TIRE RACK comparison chart. The A/S set is also about $200.00 less expensive than the PS2 set. Would appreciate your thoughts, advice and tire experience before I make the final decision around which to purchase.. Thanks for your help...

Same here - been running Pilot AS for a few years now - no complaints at all, plenty of grip. They have even got me home in snow a couple of times when I was trying to beat the weather going home, and the weather beat me! Summer tires are not recommended for cold temps even - they get a little "slippery" if it gets really cold. I used the new tires as an excuse to go 18/19, so I bought them as a package (wheels/tires/TPMS sensors) from the Rack.

I have the Michelin Pilot A/S (stock size, non-run-flats) and like them a lot. I don't drive in anything but dry conditions, but like the A/S for their generally smoother and quieter ride.
As per-Frank J. you will notice a day/night difference to the OEM Goodyears.

If you definitely want runflat tires, I would go with the A/S tires. They are very good tires for the Vette.

Just had these Michelins installed on my Y2K convertible today (AS). They have a $70.00 rebate, and they're made in the U.S.A.
UPDATE: we took a trip to Lake Tahoe yesterday and although it wasn't wet, I was happy with the way the tires handled and the lack of road noise.

I'm already eyeing the Pilot PS2 ZP for my next set. I don't do any winter driving either, and even though they are a little more expensive than the A/S, I don't want to compromise handling during the hotter summer months.
The stock OEM Goodyear run-flats aren't a bad tire IMO, but there are better choices. They do run a bit stiff, but for summer performance driving, they work for me until they need replaced, plus they had less than 2K on them when I bought the car earlier this year.

They are the ultimate DOT tire for dry roads, but I think the pilot sport PS2 is compromised in the rain compared to an all season tire like the pilot sport A/S 3. I have the non run flat version. They regularly saw 110 degree heat this summer. I never wanted for more tire grip. But I'm not doing track days either.

We just put Mich A/S on ours few months ago. We don't drive it in wet or snow normally, but just last week got caught in a huge downpour on the interstate and I was glad to have the A/S.

For all you non DD's, what kind of mileage can one expect out the Pilot Sport A/S ZP. I do use my car in the winter, as long as there is no snow, ice or salt on the roads. I don't care how cold it is out, if the roads are clean I'm driving on my days off from work !

Had the Pilot Sport A/S ZPs on my C5 since 2003/4. Plenty of grip year round for street driving and spirited driving.
If the PS2 Summers are the same or similar to the C7 OEM, you will probably not be happy once the temp drops below 45 degrees or so.

I am on my fourth set of rears and third set of fronts. I usually get 35-36k on the rears and 50-52k on the fronts. Lots of highway driving but don't hammer them real hard.

That's pretty good. When I bought new A/S 3's, the tire store said they are rated to last 45k miles, but since the sizes are staggered and can't be rotated, the mileage rating is cut in half. I was afraid I'd only get 22.5k out of them. I guess they are vastly overestimating the extra wear from lack of rotating. Already put 6k on them and the tread still looks virtually new. I've worn through new rear tires on my motorcycle in 3000 miles. That gets fricking expensive.

I've got a set of these Michelin A/S tires for sale, posted in the for sale forum. Have 5,000 miles and look like new. I upgraded to summer only tires. Let me know if your interested.
